Another celebrity is doing their part to fight climate change. Not by living their lives like the rest of us, but by wearing older designer clothes.

Nicky Hilton recently attended the Fashion Group International’s Rising Star Awards in New York City, and told Page Six that she has started wearing vintage clothes to help fight climate change. Hilton does deserve some real credit, however, as she is also taking the subway when she travels around the city.

“I am here in support of [sustainable fashion brand] Maison de Mode … So I pulled out an old Alice + Olivia skirt and wore a vintage Chanel bag, and I took the subway here,” said the sister of Paris Hilton. “I took the 6. I feel like I am doing my part.”

Hilton also apparently wore a “cheap,” $75 skirt to the opening of the annual art benefit Winter Show at the Park Avenue Armory, an event that helps The Bronx’s East Side House Settlement. She told Page Six that the pencil skirt she was wearing “was $75 from Instagram.” At the time she spoke to the outlet, she was admiring a $24,000 cat sculpture.

Hilton joins a cascade of celebrities doing their part to help the environment. Earlier this month, “Joker” star Joaquin Phoenix was called a climate change hero for his decision to wear the same tuxedo to all six of this year’s awards shows.

“Hopefully, we can be unified and actually make some changes. It’s great to vote, but sometimes we have to take that responsibility on ourselves and make changes and sacrifices in our own lives. We don’t have to take private jets to Palm Springs for the awards,” Phoenix said while accepting an award for Best Actor at the Golden Globes.

A few days later, Phoenix took a plane to a climate change rally, where he railed against the meat and dairy industries for their contributions to climate change.

“Something, I think, isn’t often times talked about in the environmental movement, or the conversation about climate change, is that the meat and dairy industry is the third leading cause of climate change,” Phoenix said. “And, um, I think sometimes we think, what can we do in this fight against climate change, and there’s something that you can do today, right now, and tomorrow by making a choice what you consume.”

“I struggle so much with what I can do at times,” he added. “There are things that I can’t avoid — I flew a plane out here today, or last night, rather. But one thing that I can do is change my eating habits.”

These two climate warriors stand alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, who has his own foundation to fight climate change and who travels around the world in private jets and massive yachts telling other people to reduce their carbon footprint while he simply purchases carbon offsets to maintain his wasteful lifestyle. DiCaprio is not alone. In 2019, media outlets finally called out celebrities for using private jets to travel the world and cry about climate change.
