Filmmaker and actor Kirk Cameron attended the March for Life and spoke to Fox News about why he is pro-life.
Cameron, who played Mike Seaver on “Growing Pains,” discussed his views about pro-life issues and how some people might be changing their minds about abortion in the country.
“I think that we’re at a tipping point,” Cameron told “Fox & Friends Weekend” co-host Rachel Campos-Duffy. “I think that the tide is turning, science is making it more and more difficult for us to pretend like it’s not a baby in the womb. We know that it is.”
He added, “Even in Hollywood, there are more and more people who are embracing the idea that life is a gift from God,” and went on to discuss his upcoming movie based on a true story. “If you talk to the people who are here, some people don’t understand why we come and why we’re marching, but we understand as the family of faith, that our hope is ultimately not in who governs us, it’s not in the laws that we make as a nation. Our hope is in the power of God working in the hearts of people, and there are thousands and thousands of us here today, we want to make a difference, we want to champion life.”
Cameron also discussed his own family and the personal side to his pro-life views. His wife is an adopted child, and he said she was “one doctor appointment away from not existing. She was not a mistake, she was a miracle, and our first four children are adopted. They were ‘this close’ to not existing. And our two natural-born children would not be here if my wife had not been born, and her birth mother not chosen life.”
“So for me, my whole family is here because of the work of the people like who are coming to the Mall today for the March for Life,” said Cameron.
Campos-Duffy discussed her own personal side to the pro-life movement, noting that her daughter has Down syndrome.
Earlier this week, March for Life President Jeanne Mancini spoke with The Daily Wire about the upcoming event, noting that Kirk Cameron was part of the lineup.
The theme for this year’s march is “Equality Begins in the Womb.” Mancini said that young people are “social justice warriors,” and they “know that social justice begins in the womb, and they know that they’re missing a whole cadre of their peers to abortion.”
She added how young people have “grown up seeing their little brothers’, their little sisters’ ultrasonography photos on the refrigerator before they’re introduced to them in the world. And they see this as a human rights abuse …”
As The Daily Wire reported, “Pro-life marchers carried a plethora of different signs on Friday demonstrating their advocacy for both mothers and their babies. Some proudly hoisted American flags as they marched.
“‘Love them both,’ read one sign with an illustration of a mother and her unborn child.”
“‘Be honest. Face the truth,’ another sign read.”
This year’s March is especially monumental for the pro-life movement as the Supreme Court considers a case out of Mississippi, the decision on which could change the precedent for abortion legislation across the country.
The case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, concerns a Mississippi law that bans most abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. When the Supreme Court agreed to hear the Mississippi case, it said it would consider the question of “[w]hether all pre-viability prohibitions on elective abortions are unconstitutional,” meaning that with this decision, they could rule that states can make their own laws regarding abortion again — even possibly banning it up to the point of conception. The high Court could give power back to the states to restrict abortion like they were able to do prior to the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling.
