Paxton was known for a broad range of roles, spanning decades. His resume included films such as Titanic, Apollo 13, True Lies, Aliens, Twister, Edge of Tomorrow, and Nightcrawler. Paxton also had a large body of work in television, including Hatfields & McCoys, Big Love, and most recently, Training Day.
You can catch his final film performance in The Circle, which hits theaters April 28.
A family spokesperson released a statement, which reads:
It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery. A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker.

Bill Paxton could play any role, but he was best at being Bill – a great human being with a huge heart. My thoughts are with his family.

You were a great friend to me, Bill. AND one of the finest actors to share a set with. Sending so much love to Bill Paxton’s family.

NOOOO not Bill Paxton!!! That’s awful! Truly one of the best actors. And sweet! He recited some Chet lines at @Comic_Con 2013. Made my year.

In the words of Twister‘s Bill Harding, played brilliantly by Paxton: “Things go wrong. You can’t explain it, you can’t predict it.”
Rest in Peace, Bill Paxton.
