CNN's Brian Stelter allowed psychiatrist Allen Frances to make wildly false claims about President Donald Trump on his Sunday show and offered zero pushback to any of Frances' remarks which sparked intense backlash against the far-left network.
Frances' false claims about the president came during a segment in which Stelter, who ironically hosts a show called "Reliable Sources," brought on a second psychiatrist to bash the president.
"Well, I think 'medicalizing' politics has three very dire consequences," Frances began. "The first is that it stigmatizes the mentally ill. I've known thousands of patients, almost all of them have been well-behaved, well-mannered, good people. Trump is none of these. Lumping the mentally ill with Trump is a terrible insult to the mentally ill and they have enough problems and stigma as it is."
"The second issue is, calling Trump crazy hides the fact that we're crazy for having elected him and even crazier for allowing his crazy policies to persist," Frances continued. "Trump is as destructive of person in this century as Hitler, Stalin, Mao were in the last century. He may be responsible for many more million deaths than they were."
Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Mao Zedong are the three most notorious mass murderers in world history with all three men directly being responsible for the deaths of tens of millions of innocent people.
Notable figures in the media were quick to call out Stelter for failing to address Frances' false comments.
"CNN actually does need to require @brianstelter apologize or discipline him for what he let happen on his show today," conservative commentator Erick Erickson wrote on Twitter. "Stelter allowed a man to compare the President to Hitler, Stalin, and Mao and not only didn't challenge him on that, but then argued the man whose thesis was that it is irresponsible to discuss the President's mental state was wrong for not wanting to discuss Trump's mental health. Stelter gave him zero push back on the Hitler comparison, but argued we should discuss the President's mental state."
Erickson added: "This is not CNN living up to the standards it claims it sets for itself and expects other networks to live by. If this happened at Fox, Stelter himself would be calling for an apology and covering the host going on a 'previously scheduled vacation.'"
Donald Trump Jr. tweeted: "The only thing 'Reliable' about Stelter is that he is reliably a leftwing hack."
Former CIA officer Bryan Dean Wright tweeted: "In the past two years, Trump has held back on greater involvement in Syria, canceled airstrikes in Iran, and worked feverishly to secure peace w/ North Korea. These are not the actions of a man in competition with Hitler, Stalin, or Mao. It's utter hysteria to suggest he is."
Journalist Chuck Ross tweeted: "In case you thought @brianstelter was a serious journalist, today he ... Let a guest accuse Trump of being worse than Hitler/Stalin/Mao ... Let a guest defend CNN hiring McCabe ... Coached April Ryan through a disastrous interview about her bodyguard assaulting a journo."
