President Donald Trump mocked Democrats on Wednesday over the U.S. House of Representatives hearing of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, which has been described by some as a political "disaster" for the party.
Trump tweeted: "I would like to thank the Democrats for holding this morning’s hearing. Now, after 3 hours, Robert Mueller has to subject himself to #ShiftySchiff - an Embarrassment to our Country!"
Trump lawyer Jay Sekulow released the following statement: "This morning’s testimony exposed the troubling deficiencies of the Special Counsel’s investigation. The testimony revealed that this probe was conducted by a small group of politically-biased prosecutors who, as hard as they tried, were unable to establish either obstruction, conspiracy, or collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. It is also clear that the Special Counsel conducted his two-year investigation unimpeded."
"The American people understand that this issue is over," Sekulow added. "They also understand that the case is closed."
Among those on the Left who have criticized the results from the hearing are former senior Obama advisor David Axelrod and Harvard Law School professor Laurence Tribe.
Axelrod described the hearing as "very, very painful."
Tribe echoed a similar sentiment, writing: "Much as I hate to say it, this morning’s hearing was a disaster. Far from breathing life into his damning report, the tired Robert Mueller sucked the life out of it. The effort to save democracy and the rule of law from this lawless president has been set back, not advanced."
Donald Trump Jr. also slammed Mueller during the hearing, tweeting: "Serious question: Has Mueller even heard of Mueller?"
"Funny, Muelller can’t understand the Republicans but he can totally understand the Democrats questions," Trump Jr. added. "This is a disaster for dems."
Trump Jr. also took a shot at Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), tweeting: "Sort of like the lies Schiff told the American people every day when he claimed he saw evidence that no one else has seen? I guess he’s saving that for another hearing! #FullOfSchiff #BullSchiff."
Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) weighed in on the hearing, writing: "The more this hearing goes on, the more it becomes painfully clear that not only did Bob Mueller not write his own report—he was barely involved or in control of it at all. You know who was? His team of Democrats. This was a resistance-driven partisan witch hunt all along."
Trump tweeted out a quote from Fox News' Chris Wallace: "'This has been a disaster for the Democrats and a disaster for the reputation of Robert Mueller.' Chris Wallace @FoxNews."
Trump also tweeted out a quote from a Fox News contributor: "'Mueller was asked whether or not the investigation was impeded in any way, and he said no.' In other words, there was NO OBSTRUCTION. @KatiePavlich @FoxNews."
