If an elected Republican refused to properly condemn a vile group of domestic terrorists that bears the faintest trace of purported relation to the political Right, one is left to ponder just how scathing and pervasive the media onslaught against the elected official would be.
Actually, one is not left to merely ponder. Just ask President Donald Trump how the media treated him after his initially lukewarm, generic condemnation of the fatal white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia in August 2017.
There is no reason whatsoever why the situation ought to be any different for an elected Democrat who refuses to properly condemn a vile group of domestic terrorists that bears more than a faint trace of relation to fringe swaths of the political Left. But for the Democrats' new "It" girl, radical socialist and Jew-hatred apologist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) — the John Lennon of the America-hating "Squad" who promotes outrageous Nazi comparisons in lieu of dulcet utopian songwriting — the normal rules seem to infrequently apply.
On Monday, as The Daily Wire reported, Ocasio-Cortez repeatedly refused to denounce a weekend terrorist attack on a Tacoma, Washington Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility. The attack, as it turns out, was perpetrated by a far-left member of the horrifically violent anarchist group, Antifa. Shamefully, though all too predictably, coverage of the cowardly attack "hardly registered in the national media." And the fresh new face of the Democratic Party — an ideologically unhinged, economically illiterate, senseless dolt of the highest order — could not bring herself to even condemn it.
It really should not be difficult for a sitting U.S. congresswoman to condemn a seeming domestic terrorist attack committed against a besieged facility of the executive branch of the federal government. It should be even less difficult for a sitting U.S. congresswoman to issue that condemnation when the attacker against the government facility is revealed to be a member of a diabolical group that even mandarins within Barack Obama's administration designated a domestic terrorist group. And it should be even less less difficult still for a sitting U.S. congresswoman to issue that condemnation when that Obama administration-classified domestic terrorist group only recently punched and bloodied a homosexual Asian journalist in broad daylight for the whole world to see.
Ocasio-Cortez's utter refusal to condemn Antifa and an Antifa member-led attack upon an ICE facility is wholly unsurprising. The congresswoman's "Squad" does not feel bound by the conventional norms of American politics. Heck, the "Squad" does not even feel bound by conventional societal norms pertaining to the maintenance of basic human decorum and the rejection of virulent bigotry.
But the lamentably unsurprising nature of Ocasio-Cortez's brazen refusal to condemn the assault upon the Washington ICE facility ought not to diminish from the shame of the entire spectacle. If the roles were reversed, and a sitting Republican congressman's refusal to denounce a violent white nationalist attack against a governmental diversity office were met with jarring media silence, the hair-splitting paroxysms from the Left would never cease. Conservatives need to criticize Ocasio-Cortez for the very simple reason that a failure to do so would risk exacerbating the misperception that failure to condemn an abhorrent and violent group such as Antifa is anything other than dreadful. Antifa is a domestic terrorist organization and violent acts committed by its members ought to be universally condemned without any equivocation. Period.
Really, how hard can it possibly be for Democrats to denounce Antifa?
