President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated on Wednesday that the woman who left the United States to join ISIS will not be allowed to reenter the U.S.
"I have instructed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and he fully agrees, not to allow Hoda Muthana back into the Country!" Trump tweeted.
"Ms. Hoda Muthana is not a U.S. citizen and will not be admitted into the United States," Pompeo said in a statement. "She does not have any legal basis, no valid U.S. passport, no right to a passport, nor any visa to travel to the United States. We continue to strongly advise all U.S. citizens not to travel to Syria."
For the last several days, American mainstream media outlets have run sob stories on Muthana, aimed at humanizing her as she begs to return to the U.S.
Fox News White House Correspondent Kevin Corke compiled an informative thread on Muthana and her background.
"For the record, #HodaMuthana is the daughter of Yemeni immigrants," Corke tweeted. "She attended high school and college in the U.S. but is NOT an American. #HodaMuthana was not entitled to return because children born in the US to accredited foreign diplomatic officers do NOT acquire #citizenship under the 14th Amendment since they are not 'born . . . subject to the jurisdiction of the US.' She was the daughter of a diplomat."
"#More #HodaMuthana possibilities: Section 349 of the INA (8 U.S.C. 1481), as amended, states that U.S. nationals are subject to loss of nationality if they perform certain specified acts voluntarily and with the intention to relinquish U.S. nationality including: Taking an oath, affirmation or other formal declaration of allegiance to a foreign state or its political subdivisions after the age of 18 (Sec. 349 (a) (2) INA)" Corke continued.
"Entering or serving in the armed forces of a foreign state engaged in hostilities against the United States or serving as a commissioned or non-commissioned officer in the armed forces of a foreign state (Sec. 349 (a) (3) INA)," Corke added. "Conviction for an act of treason against the Government of the United States or for attempting by force to overthrow, or bear arms against, the Government of the United States (Sec. 349 (a) (7) INA)"
