According to a devastating report in The New York Times, Planned Parenthood has been accused of discriminating against its pregnant employees. As The Daily Wire noted this week, the “women’s health” organization is accused of factoring pregnancy into employment decisions and denying breaks to pregnant women.
Former employees reveal a work environment hostile to pregnant employees. Some say they were even fired or demoted after giving birth. Incredibly, most Planned Parenthood affiliates do not provide maternity leave. The hypocrisy is staggering for a company that claims to champion women’s health.
But this is only the latest layer of hypocrisy to be peeled back and exposed. This, after all, is the same Planned Parenthood that pretends to support the Me Too movement yet fails to report rape to the police. The is the Planned Parenthood that claims to advocate choice yet hides sonograms from women so that they can’t make an informed one. This is the Planned Parenthood that positions itself as a supporter of the poor, the disadvantaged, and minorities, yet exploits all of these groups for profit. This is the Planned Parenthood that laments all of those who die by gun violence annually even while murdering ten times as many.
But each individual example of hypocrisy almost misses the point. Planned Parenthood is hypocrisy incarnate. It’s whole existence, its entire mission, everything about it is hypocritical. It masquerades as a health clinic but it kills. It advocates family planning but it destroys families. It feigns compassion while it profits off of the fear and confusion of pregnant teenagers.
On second thought, perhaps its treatment of pregnant employees isn’t really that hypocritical at all. Maybe that’s the one honest thing about Planned Parenthood. It seems to be saying to its workers: “No, we aren’t going to accommodate your pregnancy. We’re Planned Parenthood. We end pregnancies. That’s what we do. If you want to embrace your pregnancy and embrace life, you need to do it somewhere else.”
I guess you can’t argue with their logic.
