Rapper Kanye West held court in the Oval Office on Thursday in perhaps the most extraordinary summit ever to occur in that hallowed office.
He was brilliant, profane, braggadocious, spacey, defensive, ethereal, pragmatic and flat-out weird during the 20-minute pool spray, when the media was trotted in.
On the Second Amendment, West said, "Illegal guns is the problem, not legal guns." Then he showed President Trump a picture on his phone of a hydrogen-powered "iPlane1." "This is what our President should be flying in!" West said.
After answering a question from the media, West said: "I don’t answer questions in simple soundbites. You are tasting a fine wine. It has multiple notes to it." Later, he speculated that "We might have been here before, but right now we’re here together."
At one point, sitting across from the most powerful man in the world, West said President Trump "might not have expected to have a crazy motherf**ker run up and support."
But he was also brilliant. At another point, West cut to the very essence of the political discord in America right now, after he said, "We need to stop working on red and blue. It's like a gang again!"
"We can bend a bit on this side, we can bend a bit on that side, and we can learn how to be malleable .... We don't have to stick to our old traditions. We aren't a side — we are one unit, we are one country, we are one moment in history and time," West said.
Extraordinary. Then West revealed a true insight into the strategy of liberals, who have sought ot tear Trump down since the minute he took office.
Here's what he said:
"What I need 'Saturday Night Live' to improve on, what I need the liberals to improve on, is if he don't look good, WE don't look good. This is our president! He has to be the freshest, the flyest!"
"The Freshest, The Flyest." A perfect bumper sticker motto.
But here's why it's more than that. West is pointing out that Democrats and liberals are cutting off their noses to spite their faces. The very liberal mainstream media has jumped from one supposed controversy to another — Russia, his tax returns, the Supreme Court, Trump's foreign policy. The intent throughout is to make Trump look foolish.
The perfect example is the speech Trump delivered to the United Nations last month. To a roomful of foreign leaders gathered in the ornate hall, Trump said he had accomplished more over two years than “almost any administration” in American history. The crowd tittered, but more at the bragging from the narcissistic president.
And yet the MSM media went wide with the story. " 'People actually laughed at a president’: At U.N. speech, Trump suffers the fate he always feared," The Washington Post said. "Donald Trump bragged about himself to the United Nations. The UN laughed," CNN said.
Don't they get it? If they laughed at him, they laughed at the U.S. Foreign leaders laughed at AMERICA! And you're HAPPY about that?!
(One personal note: I disagreed with almost everything Barack Obama did as president. But he was always MY president.)
Cut to Kanye: "If he don't look good, WE don't look good."
Damn straight, Yeezy. And Brilliant.
