New York Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo ratcheted up the extremist rhetoric during a press conference on Monday, accusing the Trump administration of waging "jihad" against illegal aliens.
Cuomo's comment was made after he announced that he was pardoning criminal illegal aliens who were facing deportation because of their past crimes, the New York Post reported.
"This administration is on a crusade against people who they do not consider original Americans," Cuomo said, adding that the only "original Americans" are "Native American tribes."
"What they’ve done at the border is an example of it, what they’ve done in Puerto Rico, and they are on a jihad to deport as many people as they can who they believe are not in the United States legally," Cuomo claimed.
The term "jihad" refers to " a holy war waged on behalf of Islam as a religious duty," or a "struggle."
