Following an incendiary tweet from comedian Roseanne Barr that likened former Obama White House adviser Valerie Jarrett to "Planet of the Apes" and the Muslim Brotherhood, ABC has now announced it has canceled the reboot of her sit-com "Roseanne" after just one season that scored record ratings.
Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment, released the following statement: "Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show."
In the original, now-deleted tweet sent Tuesday, Roseanne Barr said of the former Obama staffer: "muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj." Her comments were in response to an article about WikiLeaks' Julian Assange exposing the CIA during the Obama Administration for having "spied on French presidential candidates."
After a significant backlash, Barr went on to apologize to Jarrett for "making a bad joke about her politics and her looks." Roseanne deleted the tweet and announced her exit from Twitter as a result.
