They did it again. The GOP has introduced yet another spending bill that continues to provide a half a billion dollars of taxpayer money to abortion conglomerate Planned Parenthood, despite the group being the nation's leading provider of abortions and currently being under investigation by the DOJ for the sale of aborted baby parts.
According to CNS, "the $1.3-trillion omnibus spending bill pushed through on Wednesday night by the Republican-controlled House does not defund the abortion provider."
The Hill reports that Rep. Tom Garrett (R-VA) will introduce an amendment to the bill that would defund Planned Parenthood, but it has a "zero percent" chance of passing the House Rules Committee, according to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) of the conservative House Freedom Caucus. More from CNS:
The abortion provider also received $543.7 million in government money for the funding year that ended June 30, 2017. The first five months of that year was during the Trump administration.
Planned Parenthood receives in excess of $500 million from the federal government each year. In 2015-16, it received $554.6 million; in 2014-15, it received $553.7 million; in 2013-14, $528.4 million; and in 2012-13, $540.6 million.
Since 2012, Planned Parenthood has performed over a million abortions. Should Trump sign the new bill, which he has threatened to veto, it will fly in the face of his promise to defund "Planned Parenthood as long as they continue to perform abortions, and reallocating their funding to community health centers that provide comprehensive health care for women."
If the GOP continues compromising with Democrats on this without a substantial fight, they can no longer call themselves pro-life. If the Democrats threaten a shutdown over Planned Parenthood, then the Republicans should gird their loins and force them to defend an organization that butchers babies and sells their aborted parts to the highest bidder.
