On Sunday, Democratic activist David Hogg begged people not to make his gun control agenda a political issue after weeks of demonizing Republicans, conservatives, and NRA members.
Hogg tweeted: "Can we please not debate this as Democrats and Republicans but discuss this as Americans? In the comments if you see someone you dissagree (sic) with do not attack each other talk to one another, this applies to me too. WE MUST WORK TOGETHER TO SAVE OUR FUTURE."
Hogg's tweet is hilarious given that he has spent nearly every day since the tragic shooting at his school attacking Republicans, conservatives, and NRA members.
Here are some of Hogg's attacks:
Attacks the NRA, calls them "child murderers"
While appearing on CNN, Hogg referred to the NRA, a conservative organization, as "child murderers" and attacked Republicans who have taken from the organization. CNN's Alisyn Camerota let Hogg's outrageous attack go unchecked and was later called out by Dana Loesch over her inaction; Camerota responded by becoming defensive and denying it.
Attacks Republican lawmakers, calls them "child murderers"
At a New Jersey gun control rally in late February, Hogg said, “Literally any legislation at this point would be a success. Considering the fact that so few legislators in Florida met with us and they want the people to forget, that’s disgusting. The fact that they want people to forget about this and elect them again as the child murderers they are, that’s unacceptable and we’re not going to let that happen.”
Hogg's comments were obviously directed at lawmakers who stand by the Second Amendment and refuse to infringe upon the rights of law-abiding citizens.
Attacks the NRA, claims they want to "kill more people"
Appearing on CNN's "New Day," Hogg said that gun ownership should not be a right in the United States and instead should be a privilege. Hogg launched into a tirade in which he smeared the NRA.
"Let us [the NRA] sell you more guns at an even younger age, put more people at risk, scare more people, cause more violence, kill more people, and sell more guns," Hogg said.
Attacks only Republicans, calls them "cowards"
Appearing once again on CNN, Hogg called out only Republican politicians, saying, “I have to because our politicians are cowards and they won’t. They won’t gather the strength even to stand up to the, to the NRA like Marco Rubio, Rick Scott or Donald Trump. Where they won’t stand up to the NRA and say you don’t own me anymore and they rip off their shock collar. At this point, our politicians are like really stupid sharks that think that they have power but honestly don’t."
Viciously attacks outspoken conservative Dana Loesch
Appearing on ABC’s "This Week" with host George Stephanopoulos, Hogg attacked Loesch, saying, "And what I want people to know is, look at Dana. Look at what she’s saying. Is she actually saying anything or is that just a tone to distract the American public and distract her NRA members from the fact that she's not serving them? She's serving the gun manufacturers.”
Refuses to hold Democrat Sheriff responsible, blames Republican governor
Appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" in late February, Hogg refused to criticize Democrat Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel over his department's failures as he insisted Republican Governor Rick Scott was responsible for the sheriff's deputies not entering the school.
Attacks the Trump administration's education secretary, Betsy DeVos
Appearing on MSNBC with host Lawrence O'Donnell, Hogg attacked DeVos, calling her a "pawn of corporate America."
Campaigns for Democrat Michael Bloomberg's radical anti-gun group, Everytown For Gun Safety
Hogg tweeted out a picture of a script from Bloomberg's radical group, telling people to call their state representatives and threaten that they will be voted out of office unless they pass gun control laws.
Spreads false information about Dana Loesch and the NRA
One of Hogg's classmates tweeted: "The hypocrisy continues: @DLoesch & the @NRA say that gun control measures should be left to the states, yet sued the state of Florida yesterday for gun legislation."
Loesch and the NRA have not advocated for gun control measures to be left to the states, yet Hogg helped spread the false tweet to his nearly half a million followers.
Smears Dana Loesch on CNN, "She doesn't care about these children's lives"
Appearing on CNN's "Reliable Sources" with Brian Stelter and documented liar Dan Rather, Hogg made multiple false statements, including outrageous comments, saying Dana Loesch "doesn't care about these children's lives." That statement has absolutely no merit in reality and goes directly against what Loesch has said.
Advocates for only leftist policies
This tweet speaks for itself as all the positions he champions, including pushing for gun control, are Democratic talking points.
Attacks Trump for calling out the Democrats - Part 1
Hogg launched into an angry rant against the president, telling him, "you sicken me."
Attacks Trump for calling out the Democrats - Part 2
When Trump pointed out how the Democrats did nothing on gun control for two years when they had complete control of the government, Hogg responded, "How dare you," as he launched into another rage-filled performance, saying that children's blood was on Trump's hands.
Attacks Trump over policies that have nothing to do with gun violence
Hogg is a young activist who certainly has a lot of time and room to learn and grow. We'll see if he has genuinely learned that his mode of activism has been counterproductive and will indeed embrace his own advice and not unfairly "attack" others but instead "talk to one another."
