Last night, North Dakota Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp was one of 46 senators — nearly all Democrats — to vote against ending a filibuster, effectively killing a bill that would have outlawed abortions after 20 weeks gestation, a horrific practice.

Heitkamp, who is up for re-election this year as a moderate Democrat in a "red" state, probably should have kept her ghoulish celebration over the vote to herself, but in a fit of excitement, she apparently decided to high-five Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to mark her win.

North Dakota power blogger, Rob Port, caught Heidi in action.

That's preeeeetty gross. Actually, it would be pretty gross if she did that after defeating nearly any bill. It's especially disgusting because she just voted to preserve an act that dismembers and kills a human child in the womb just days before it could survive on its own.

Of course, if Heitkamp were running in a solidly blue state, she might feel only the slightest of repercussions for spiking the football on abortion, but Heitkamp is running an uphill battle for re-election in her state. Blue state Democrats like West Virginia's Joe Manchin crossed party lines Monday night to preserve the veneer of centrism because many of them are running for office in states that voted solidly for President Donald Trump.

Heitkamp is too, and last election she won her seat by fewer than 3,000 votes. Republicans won't like her vote on this bill. Democrats won't like her celebration with Chuck Schumer. Neither had to take place.
