First Lady Melania Trump is firing back after being dogged by rumors that she's living separately from the president and cancelled a planned trip to Davos, Switzerland, with her husband after news broke that he'd allegedly paid adult film star Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about an affair.
Stephanie Grisham, a spokeswoman for Mrs. Trump, posted on Twitter that the First Lady is fed up with the "false" attacks.
“BREAKING,” she wrote, according to the Associated Press. “The laundry list of salacious & flat-out false reporting about Mrs. Trump by tabloid publications & TV shows has seeped into ‘main stream media’ reporting."
The past week's reporting has indeed been "salacious." After the Stormy Daniels story broke earlier in January, several outlets have been cataloging the First Lady's every move, reporting that she'd moved out of the White House and into a "posh D.C. hotel," that she had dropped off the president's schedule, and then that she'd avoided the trip to Davos to take a private holiday in Mar-a-Lago.
The First Lady did, indeed, drop out of the trip to Davos, but she visited the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. on Thursday instead. She made a short jaunt to Palm Beach, Florida on Saturday but has since returned to the White House.
The attention can't be easy for Mrs. Trump, regardless. Even as news cycles have come and gone, Hollywood, at least, refuses to allow the Stormy Daniels story to die. Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, who has been getting many of his political marching orders from now-disgraced Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, even has Daniels booked as a guest on his show, directly following President Trump's State of the Union address.
