To ring in the new year, California became an official “sanctuary state” on Monday, signaling that the state will not fully cooperate with federal immigration authorities who seek to enforce immigration laws.
California, which is home to well over 2.3 million illegal aliens, purportedly saw signs pop up that mock the state’s new laws, Fox News reported.
Motorists entering California from Nevada and Arizona are greeted by the signs, which say: "OFFICIAL SANCTUARY STATE, Felons, Illegals and MS13 Welcome! Democrats Need The Votes!"
It is unclear who is behind the signs or if the signs have been removed at this point. Currently, Fox News is the only credible news organization that has reported on the existence of the signs.
Democratic Governor Jerry Brown signed California's "sanctuary state" bill into law back in October.
On the campaign trail, Donald Trump repeatedly hammered the issue of sanctuary policies, and his administration is taking action against them. The debate over sanctuary cities heated up nationally with the 2015 killing of Kate Steinle by a criminal illegal alien who had been deported multiple times and who was hiding out in San Francisco, a "sanctuary city." In late November, Kate's killer was acquitted of murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
