<p>Ten former NFL players, including some high-profile names, were charged Thursday by the Justice Department for allegedly defrauding the league&#8217;s healthcare benefits program of millions of dollars through an elaborate fraud scheme.</p>
<p>The Justice Department announced the charges in a <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/ten-former-nfl-players-charged-alleged-nationwide-fraud-health-care-benefit-program-retired">press release</a> Thursday. &#8220;Ten former NFL players allegedly committed a brazen, multi-million dollar fraud on a health care plan meant to help their former teammates and other retired players pay legitimate, out-of-pocket medical expenses,&#8221; said Assistant Attorney General Benczkowski, in a statement included in the release.</p>
