During his one term as U.S. President, George H.W. Bush led the country through significant events, including the fall of the Soviet Union and the Persian Gulf War. Despite his popularity, he lost to Bill Clinton when he ran for re-election in 1992, mostly due to a slowing economy. Even so, he is often remembered as a man of character and wisdom.
