Well, I’m here to tell you that it’s far worse than the Biden-apologists in the media are telling us. And it’s been far worse than we’ve all thought for years.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/show/candace">My show</a> this week is focused in part on immigration. Not wanting to just rehash information we’ve all heard, I thought I’d dig a little deeper and provide my audience with a more authentic account of the situation at the border. So, I reached out to a young girl I know who’s a DACA recipient and asked her if it would be possible for me to speak to her mother about how she first came into this country. Despite all of the debate and statistics on immigration circulating on the internet, Americans generally don’t understand how the process takes place. How do migrants actually get into this country illegally and why does it continue to happen at such a high rate? So I asked the girl’s mother and ended up having a conversation that absolutely blew my mind.

This woman started her journey to America in Guatemala 13 years ago. When she crossed the border illegally, she was a Guatemalan citizen. She has since married an American and has been granted a green card and thus legal status. Her first step required her handing over $3,000 to a drug cartel member, the entry fee for what would prove a harrowing journey that would cost some of the other travelers their lives.

A group of some 200 others trying to get into America, who had also been forced to fill the pockets of the cartel, met at a farm in Guatemala where they were picked up by a massive truck loaded with a lightweight good — plastic cups. The cartels, she said, make sure that the truck has something that&#8217;s lightweight because under the goods is a hollowed-out area into which the 200 migrants are packed. The first leg of the journey lasts around 24 hours, during which time all the travelers were given was a bottle of water. The woman told me that there was also a bucket in the back to go to the bathroom.

Over the course of that first leg of the trip, she said, the truck came to several checkpoints where people working for the Mexican government would spray the bottom of the truck with pepper spray, trying to see if there were any illegal aliens hidden inside. If the officials didn’t hear any coughing, they allowed the truck to pass. The coyotes, she said, would threaten to slit the throats of the passengers if they coughed. This routine happened about 10 times.

After that nightmarish ride, the migrants would be crammed into a house that she said would have hundreds of people in it and where they waited for over a week for a new transport to take them on the next leg of the journey.

Eventually, the group of migrants reached the point in which they had to walk through the desert. The woman told me that it took her group five days hiking, and at times running from Mexican authorities, through the desert to make it to the border. For that grueling trek, the migrants were handed backpacks containing just a couple of gallons of water and some meager portions of food. During the desert hike, she recalled how one man collapsed, saying he couldn’t go on any further. A woman also gave out during the brutal hike. The two were left to die out there while the coyotes pushed everyone else to keep moving.

When they reached the American border, she told me, they all breathed a sigh of relief. Once you actually hit American soil, you know you&#8217;re finally safe, she said. The threat — and consequences — of being caught is far more real on the Mexican side.

She crossed over in Arizona, where an SUV driven by an American was waiting for her group. The traffickers proceeded to pack 24 people into that vehicle, which then drove them all to Los Angeles to a house that held hundreds of people. Now, if you find yourself, like me, doubting the story because it all sounds so surreal, I’ll point you to a recent story that came out of California, where an SUV holding 25 illegal immigrants got into a horrific crash, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/04/us/migrants-crash-california-imperial-valley.html">leaving 13 migrants dead</a>.

Once she arrived in Los Angeles, her family had to wire another $3,000 to the traffickers for her dangerous journey to finally end. The final payment received, the migrants were taken to various cities across the country. She told me that when she arrived in Virginia, she already had a job lined up for her at a national pizza franchise.

What I am describing to you is just one person&#8217;s story among millions, and, obviously, I cannot attest to all the details of it. But the larger takeaway is that what is happening at our border is not just happening at our border. It&#8217;s happening throughout the United States. It&#8217;s beyond a crisis. It&#8217;s a network of individuals perpetuating this ongoing humanitarian crisis — on this side of the border.

For years, I have been asking why the Mexican government isn’t doing anything about illegal immigration. Why are the Mexicans allowing these migrants to race through Mexico forcing us to work so hard to secure the border? But in this woman’s experience, it was the opposite: the migrants feared Mexican authorities far more than Americans, whom they generally felt were actually inviting them in. They were being welcomed by a highly organized network that provided them protection, a place to live and even a job.

When then-candidate Trump stood up and declared, “I&#8217;m going to build a wall,” the politicians and the news networks exploded with rage. They did not want that wall built. They still don&#8217;t want that wall built. Why? It’s because illegal immigration is actually a well-run business operation that operates the most efficiently on the American side of the border.

Left-wing activists and politicians are effectively sending out an invitation to migrants, offering sanctuary cities, hotel rooms, college to college, tuition, you name it. Who, we must ask, profits?

I don&#8217;t work for the United States government. I don&#8217;t work for the CIA, or the FBI or the DOJ. I simply asked a question of one woman — and what I learned laid out an entire network of criminal behavior. If I was able to learn all of that via a one-hour conversation, do you really believe that our Justice Department and FBI don&#8217;t know what&#8217;s going on?

It seems painfully obvious to me that the cartels aren&#8217;t just controlling the American borders, they&#8217;re also exerting control over aspects of American politics. It&#8217;s not a coincidence that at the very same time that tens of thousands of undocumented immigrants are walking across our border, Democrats are fighting tooth and nail to ensure that voter ID is not a requirement in this country. I think the cartels want the money, but the Democrats want the power. Me? I just want the truth.

If a future historian seeks to write a book describing what it was like to live in this era, it should be titled, “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things.” These days, it feels like whatever is nice, whatever we’re enjoying, we can’t have it — take it away.
This week, on my Facebook memories, an old photo popped up of my dad sitting courtside and cheering at a Knicks game, and for a moment I remembered what it was like to have one of those nice things that we once all shared: sports.
I grew up in the ’90s. My family didn’t have money to spend on all of the cable channels, but my dad, being pretty crafty, figured out a way to get access so we could watch the big sports games. We also had one of those big screen TVs, a bulky, dinosaur-sized television that stood in the middle of the room. On that massive screen, we got to experience the nice thing that was sports.
Like Michael Jordan, game 6 against the Utah Jazz. I was 9 years old. Everybody was crowded around the TV, going absolutely crazy. You could hear the neighbors. You could hear people in front of their TVs down the street. Game six was a great moment, a nice thing.
And I’ll never forget the emotion in our tiny little living room — cousins, brothers, uncles — all huddled around watching Mike Tyson fight Evander Holyfield. I remember the utter disbelief, the screaming. I remember thinking something bad had happened, actually being frightened because the adults in the room were no longer acting like supervising adults. They weren’t watching us because they were transported into that moment. It’s seemed the whole world was emotionally invested in that moment. Tyson vs. Holyfield. That was a nice thing — an event  that allowed all of us to transcend our circumstances.
And that used to be a regular thing. Have a bad week at work? Michael Jordan is playing. Struggling financially? Kobe is about to grab another ring. Those moments we all watched on ESPN when the cameras cut to the stands to see a father catching the home run ball and his little boy next to him who just can’t believe it — elated because his dad, his hero, just caught his other hero’s ball.
Sports. That used to be a nice thing. It united us. In those moments nobody cared about anything else. That’s why athletes seemed larger than life. Because they had the unique ability to unite the country, unite the world. Everybody wanted to “be like Mike.” His greatness was enough. He was great because he knew that being the best at something was transformative enough. It made the world better somehow, even if only for a few minutes.
It’s different now though. Sure, athletes are still athletes. They are still performing incredible feats and breaking records, but it’s different. We all feel it. Now, it seems like athletes want to become great for the express purpose of patronizing regular people.
The NBA paints the floor with “Black Lives Matter,” invoking a controversial political organization that rakes in millions and millions of dollars that apparently disappears into a black hole. Nobody knows where all that money really goes, but the NBA paints the court with “Black Lives Matter” anyway. Don’t agree with that organization and their extremist agenda? Well, LeBron James and the NBA wants you to know you’re a racist.
The New Orleans Saints plastered the name Jacob Blake on their helmets to honor him because he was shot by police officers. Why would you honor a knife-wielding man with a warrant out for his arrest for allegedly raping a woman?
Because that’s what sports has become about. Stoking controversy. Divisive politics. Sports are no longer just sports — they’re now woke activism. It’s no longer about transcendence. It’s about submission. It’s about power. Do you like this team? Then you better agree with this hotly contested political topic, or they don’t like you.
Personally, I’ve stopped watching sports. When sports leagues began telling me who I had to be, I stopped watching. When players became billboards for political interest groups, I lost interest. Because I know who I am, and I know what they are. They are mouthpieces for woke corporations that want nothing more than control over my mind — and that was never for sale.
If enough people made the individual decision to simply say no to this divisive nonsense, we could make a difference. And maybe we can one day get some of those nice things back.

Why I’ve Stopped Watching Sports

As I say all the time, it&#8217;s really hard being a girl.
I frequently get messages from mothers who say to me, “I don&#8217;t know what to do with this society.” You’ve got 13-year-olds that are injecting their lips and thinking that they need to alter their bodies to be accepted. It wasn&#8217;t like this just a short time ago. A short time ago, kids were able to grow up at a healthy, natural pace. And a short time ago, a performance like the one that landed on the Grammys with Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion would have been roundly condemned by everybody.
The people that are really getting lost at this time are young women, who are left not knowing what to do and with too few people willing to take a stand to protect them.
When I was a kid, I was allowed to be awkward, have braces — to just be a young girl figuring it all out. I&#8217;m totally dating myself here, but we didn&#8217;t have social media when I was a kid. We didn&#8217;t have Twitter or Facebook, and so we were not constantly being bombarded with images of women with their breasts out and always looking for attention on the internet. Not so anymore. Now, you cannot escape that toxic messaging.
The difficult truth is that our culture has drastically changed, and so I think it&#8217;s incumbent upon women — women who care about young women — to speak up and to speak out against this damaging messaging and to make sure that we are being leaders in this society. So I’d like to give three pieces of advice to young women who are struggling with this new culture.
The first piece of advice would be to remind young women that thoughts become things.
You might think it means nothing when you put on a dirty song on your iPad or on your phone. “Well, it&#8217;s just music,” you say. It&#8217;s not just music. What you put in your ear informs your thoughts and informs your ideas about what you think the world should look like — including what freedom is. It is not freedom to wear less clothes. In fact, I would say that’s a form of slavery. If the only time you feel like you can be seen and heard is when you are stripping down, you are selling your dignity and your self-respect. And for what? A little bit of attention. In my opinion, that&#8217;s not a very good exchange.
My second piece of advice: morality is hard, but it&#8217;s more rewarding.
I say this as someone who took a very liberal route to conservatism. You&#8217;re young, you&#8217;re going to make mistakes, and that&#8217;s to be expected. But young girls also need to know that it’s important to pick morality. It&#8217;s hard in school when you&#8217;re feeling all of the peer pressure, and especially when you have people on Instagram telling you that it&#8217;s normal at 15, 16, to be getting Botox and lip injections. If you choose morality, in the end, you will be rewarded for that. I can guarantee you that.
The last piece of advice is that modern feminism leads to unhappiness.
I want you to take a look at all of the women right now that we hold up as idols in this society, that the media tells us are so great, the celebrities we’re told to worship. I want you to ask yourself a very simple question: Do you think that those women are happy? Look at their lives. Do you think that the women screaming into the Twitter-verse are happy? Are they fulfilled? When you look around at them, does it seem like they have what you would want? Are they fulfilled in their relationships? Are they fulfilled in their families? Or are they looking for that sort of attention precisely because they are unfulfilled?
I cannot think of a single person today who says, “I&#8217;m a feminist,” who I would want to exchange lives with. That’s why I have dumped feminism. The truth is feminism is no longer about equality, it is the opposite. In many ways, it brings us back to old, antiquated ideas of what it means to be a woman that actually — and quite ironically — favors the patriarchy rather than tearing it down.
If you’re looking for actual freedom and true happiness, protect your mind, pursue morality and reject the false message of feminism. And take heart in knowing that there are those of us who will fight the good fight, who want the best for you and will have your back.

Three Pieces Of Advice For Young Women

The American education system is producing adults with more degrees that are infinitely dumber — and that’s not just an opinion. In recent years, students are graduating at higher rates, yet they are scoring lower and lower on standardized tests. How is that possible?
It’s possible because our education system is being effectively rinsed of hard academics and objective metrics, in favor of woke, emotional, psychological conditioning. In essence, students today are being taught that it’s not what you know, it’s how you feel.
How you feel is the goal of education initiatives like critical race theory, and “anti-racism”— initiatives which explicitly teach and endorse racial discrimination as a means to counter supposed “systemic racism.”
The truth is there are no racist systems in America anymore. There is no law that is stopping me, as a black woman, from doing anything that a white man can do in today’s society. In fact, the only trace of systemic oppression that targets black people is happening in schools, where a black woman like me would be taught that I will never be anything more than a black person.
That’s what critical race theory is teaching children. That America is an evil, oppressive, fundamentally racist country and we are forever defined by our race.
This is why over the last two decades the Left has tried to make education sexy. Students are told that they must go to college. Getting a college degree is hailed as an achievement above all else. The more degrees you have, the more you know and the more successful you will be. That’s been the successful marketing campaign behind going to college.
The only problem is, it just isn’t true.
Today you can get a degree in heavy intellectual subjects like, Gender Studies, Women’s Studies and Latin-x Studies. You can even pursue a degree in, ready? Social Justice and Civic Responsibilities.
You can set yourself back six figures on these meaningless degrees, only to realize, of course, that they won’t earn you any money. Best you can do is maybe become a professor and teach the nothing that you know to a future generation of know-nothings.
Looking for systemic oppression? I’ve found it. The American education system is systematically producing failures. Passionate failures. People that are passionate about their ignorance.
This model is, of course, unsustainable because in the long run, participation trophies don’t work. In a free-market society, how you feel will eventually come up against what you know, and what you know will determine your success. Eventually, facts catch up to feelings, and usually by that time, it’s too late. It’s hard to monetize a bachelor’s degree in Feminist Dance Theory.
The question is why? Why are people working to implement a model that is so obviously unsustainable?
In my opinion, it’s because sustainability is not the end goal. Think about it: What better way to weaken a country then to render its future generations impotent?
Want to crush America? Rewrite its education system to teach a struggle-based version of academics where the West is no longer seen as a victor in the battle of ideas, but rather the colonizer of them. Convince students that that knowledge makes them “smart.” Brainwash those students to believe that losing is actually a form of winning. Make them feel confident, super-confident in how they feel. Award them meaningless bachelor’s and master’s degrees to convince them of their superiority. Lastly, plant that over-confident generation of idiots throughout successful corporations and watch the fireworks: corrosion from the inside out.
That seems to me to be the obvious long-term goal. To ensure that corporations give into “woke culture.” To ensure that corporations suspend profitability because an army of their blue-haired employees are “educated” about the social injustice surrounding their profitability. It promises a slow, poisonous death to a free-market society.
In essence, dumber kids equates to a dumber workforce. A dumber workforce equates to a dumber America. A dumber America equates to a weaker America, and a weaker America equates to a superpower no more. America will be overtaken without a single shot fired.

Why The American Education System Is Systematically Producing Failures

I was just two weeks postpartum when the madness of the Biden administration’s agenda began to unfold. I had resolved to take a break from social media, thinking my life — as a first-time mother — had already undergone enough transformation without the added stress of a country on the brink of radicalization. 
So, two months later, on the day I finally worked up the nerve to sink myself back into the political wasteland that is Twitter, I was rather shocked to discover that one of the top trending hashtags was pertaining to Greta Thunberg — and it was far from favorable.
Thunberg, the 18-year-old climate activist who’d become a darling of the far-Left for her radical positions on climate change, was now facing an angry backlash, with thousands of users tweeting the “GretaThunbergExposed” hashtag. 
Perhaps more surprising than what was being said about Thunberg was who was saying it. It wasn’t right-wing voices perpetuating the digital barrage, but left-leaning publications and activists. 
After researching the origins of the hashtag, I quickly learned that Thunberg was being taken to task by citizens of India for a rather amusing blunder. She had accidentally tweeted out a “tool kit,” that was intended for her eyes only. The contents included a step-by-step guide instructing her to draw attention to farmer protests in India through various social media measures. 
This “tool kit,” which was not intended for public view and was quickly scrubbed from her feed, revealed specific dates that Greta was instructed to tweet and post to Instagram in an effort to inspire outrage in a country in which she does not live, regarding a cause she presumably knows little about. 
Soon, #IndiaAgainstPropaganda began trending, backed by prominent Indians who were sickened by what they perceived to be a globalist effort to destabilize their country. 
Sound familiar?
For years, the world has been led to believe that Greta Thunberg is just an innocent child. If you believed the media’s portrayal, she was nothing but an impassioned little girl in pigtails, so scared about the future of the planet that she dropped out of school to dedicate herself fully to the environmental cause. Any person who questioned Thunberg’s remarkable rise to prominence was immediately stonewalled. After all, who would dare question the intentions of a child? In 2019, TIME magazine even named her the most influential person in the world. 
But this tool kit, and her “Freudian tweet,” pulled back the curtain, revealing Greta to be far from some indiscriminate, independent activist — but rather a young woman who is part of calculating, intentional, and contrived political apparatus.
Anyone with a thinking brain figured this out long ago. But thinking brains were in short supply on the Left while Donald Trump was in office. Completely blinded by their obsession with hating Trump, any person who opposed him was quickly elevated, whether their credentials warranted such status or not. Virtually anyone ascribing to the “Orange Man Bad” philosophy was propped up, heaped with praise, and hailed as a hero, without any further analysis of their qualifications or motivations. 
And so Greta, who at times seemed more opposed to Trump than climate change itself, quickly climbed the ranks with each scathing one-liner sent the President’s way. 
This rise to prominence would be shocking if it weren’t now a routine occurrence in the Leftist echo chamber. For four years, the Left propped up any and every person willing to oppose Donald Trump, with a direct correlation seen between the fervor of their hatred and the rapidity of their climb. 
You see, the reason Greta is important isn’t because of who she is, but because of what she represents. Thunberg is the embodiment of the woke activist portrayed by the media as an up-by-the-bootstraps, ideologically pure hero. In reality, she is like so many before her — little more than a pawn in the Left’s larger game. 
So thank you, Greta. Your tool kit has made a real difference. Just not in the way you or your co-conspirators intended.

Greta Thunberg Is Nothing But A Pawn For The Left

Cardi B is presented by the media as a role model for women and young girls. We’re told she’s an icon of sexual liberation, the paragon of female “<a href="https://www.theguardian.com/music/2017/dec/01/how-cardi-b-went-from-stripper-to-star">empowerment</a>.” She’s <a href="https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/hip-hop/8099087/cardi-b-feminist-stripping-interview-i-d-magazine">portrayed</a> as a fierce feminist and was even named “Billboard Woman of the Year” in 2020, with the outlet’s headline quoting Cardi B declaring — and this is a real quote — “<a href="https://www.billboard.com/articles/news/women-in-music/9492018/cardi-b-woman-of-the-year-billboard-cover-story-interview-2020/">I like justice. But I also like popping my p*ssy</a>.” Most recently, her performance at the 63rd annual Grammy Awards garnered thunderous applause from our adoring mainstream media, with Variety Magazine cheering her “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cardi-b-performs-wap-and-other-key-moments-from-the-grammys">message of sexual empowerment</a>” and CNN lauding her “<a href="https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/14/entertainment/cardi-b-and-megan-thee-stallion-grammys-performance/index.html">sex-positive performance</a>.”
But here’s the truth. Cardi B is a symptom of a pervasive sickness in our culture: a sickness promoted by the Left and presented under the guise of promoting and empowering women. In reality, however, it is a toxic ideology and the polar opposite of true feminism. 
Any woman who’s honest with herself feels it every day. We see it on social media, in our entertainment, and on the news. Our society has fallen deeply ill, and as anyone who has suffered a serious illness knows, you cannot heal until you first acknowledge that you’re sick. We must stop denying the truth and diagnose this disease, or it will only continue to spread. 
What Cardi B is selling is not self-empowerment. It’s self-debasement. What young girls across America learn from Cardi B is that they can earn attention and adoration by stripping in front of the world and simulating sex acts with other women. This, they’re told, will “empower” them. This, CNN says, is “positive” — “sex-positive,” whatever that means. But the reality is that what’s really being stripped away is their dignity. 
Disagree? Show me the father or mother or sister or brother who would be proud to watch their loved one acting like Cardi B or Megan Thee Stallion last Sunday.
Being a young woman in our society is already an almost impossible challenge, made even more difficult by social media metastasizing into a constant feature of their lives. Every day, every hour, every minute, they’re bombarded with messages and images telling them who and what they must be. The Cardi Bs of the world are setting the behavioral standard for the most vulnerable part of our population, and that standard is deeply harmful. 
What young girls need is support as they grow into dignified women, not a blinding encouragement to stand as blatant and shameless sexual objects for the explicit enjoyment of men.
I want to conclude by speaking directly to the target of this toxic culture, to the young girls and women who often reach out to me with questions about how to navigate today’s society. 
Ask yourself whether the attention you may get from imitating Cardi B or Megan Thee Stallion is worth your dignity and self-respect. Ask yourself whether Cardi B’s degenerate behavior is worth a small trophy made of worthless metal. Ask yourself whether women like Cardi B are truly happy. Are they happy with their relationships, or their lives? I think you’ll find a lot of these supposed role models — deep down — are miserable. 
Some will try and dilute this issue as another shallow political debate, but it’s crucial that we realize that Cardi B is indicative of a far deeper problem. This isn’t about right or left — it’s about right and wrong. The continued promotion of Cardi B’s toxic message, alongside her elevation as a cultural hero, is a symptom of a disease festering within our society. The disease of a lack of morality, of dignity, of respect for women. 
The longer we avoid this truth, the harder it will be to recover. Our young girls and women deserve far, far better.

Cardi B Is A Symptom Of A Sickness In Our Society

The media has done a really good job of creating a caricature of Candace Owens.
If you get all your news from establishment sites, you’ll find a Candace who’s always on the defense, angry, outraged, upset. But that just couldn&#8217;t be further from the truth. I&#8217;m a wife, a mother, a friend, a sister. People I’ve worked with have frequently told me they’re surprised to discover that I have a sense of humor, yet humor is one of the qualities that defines me. But the reality of who I am has been completely stripped away in this age of media propaganda that’s intent on casting people as either good or evil, woke or bigot.
A growing number of people understand how this feels because it’s not just celebrities and people with high-profile social media pages who’ve found their true selves stripped away — whether by the media, social media, or woke scolds at work. Every few days we see a new viral story in which someone just minding their own business has been shoved into the brutal spotlight. They are not prepared to defend themselves against the onslaught, and so, we often see them cave to the cancel culture.
I just want to be myself. I just want to be who I am and not feel like I have to self-censor my speech and behavior and thoughts to appease the demands of a bullying culture. That’s what all of us want — to just be who we are. I see evidence of this daily. My followers have reached out to tell me that I’ve given them the permission to be themselves because I do so unapologetically.
This shouldn’t be necessary, especially not in America. This deep desire to be ourselves is one of the founding ideas of this country — individualism, the individual pursuit of fulfillment, happiness. So much of that is simply feeling free to be able to be authentic, unfettered by a tyrannical government or an activist media or the cowards running corporations that bend the knee to the diversity, equity, and inclusion crowd.
But we’re told that this is exactly not what we are supposed to be — that we are not supposed to be ourselves. You are a woman, so you need to be this, we’re told. You are a man, so you need to be this. You are white, black, lesbian, gay, trans, so you need to be whatever the woke tell you to be. And people have allowed themselves to be bullied into obedience. At the same time we&#8217;ve transformed into a society where embracing the things we used to all agree upon — family, faith, freedom — is considered ignorant, uninformed, evil. Espousing any of that now requires fake woke repentance and hostage apologies.
It’s time to stop apologizing. We need to create a society where people have the permission to make mistakes and where it’s okay to be authentic. This is the way to redeem the culture.

And I will certainly never apologize for being an authentic individual — because that’s never a mistake.
We are in a crucial moment. None of this — the bullying, shaming, forced apologies — were defining features of our culture a decade ago. We must stand up and say I&#8217;m here, I&#8217;m a conservative and I&#8217;m not apologizing. I’m doing it. Join me.
