“We constantly were thrust into a disconnected culture where loneliness and mental health problems started to thrive.” The World Health Organization found that anxiety and depression <a href="https://www.who.int/news/item/02-03-2022-covid-19-pandemic-triggers-25-increase-in-prevalence-of-anxiety-and-depression-worldwide" target="_blank" rel="noopener">increased</a> by 25% in the first year of the pandemic, disproportionately affecting young people.
Isabel said that Gen Z is on a “quest to rebuild meaningful connection.”
“I think the easiest button and the easiest way to do that is starting a hybrid work schedule or in person work.”
“You’re starting to see this behavior not just in the workplace but we’re ditching our dating apps and bringing back in person speed dating events in big cities all over the country, you’re looking at people really wanting to build something with their hands, to touch one another, and to have that sense of real connection,” she said.
Brown’s suggestion that Gen Z is looking for connection is supported by a recent Gallup <a href="https://www.gallup.com/workplace/692675/fully-remote-work-least-popular-gen-z.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">poll</a>, which found 27% of Gen Zers say they feel lonely doing remote work, while 21% of Millennials, 15% of Gen Xers, and 10% of Boomers say the same.
According to Gallup, only 23% of Gen Zers prefer working from home, compared to 35% of every other generation.
Brown says Gen Z is increasingly disillusioned with social media acting as a replacement for in person contact.
“I think we’ve faced this paradox culturally and it&#8217;s a question left for our generation to answer: how do we responsibly balance the role of technology in connecting us, while also preventing that isolation and loneliness that often is hiding behind the screen?”
“I think this is why you’re watching Gen Z for example lead the religious resurgence happening in America right now, its young people that are flooding church pews on Sunday morning and reviving church communities at Catholic churches across the country and having mass baptism events on our college campuses,” she added.

Republican Congressman Mike Flood stood firm during an unwelcome return home to Nebraska on Monday after voting for President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill. Seven hundred constituents showed up at a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zleBod9OszY">town hall meeting</a> to boo and jeer at him for over an hour.
Though his district is largely <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Nebraska%27s_1st_Congressional_District">red</a>, the town hall took place in Lincoln, a left-leaning city. 
Rep. Flood was received favorably enough during his introductory remarks, but as soon as he mentioned healthcare and the Big Beautiful Bill, he was met with an onslaught of angry voices. 
“The only way we’re going to get through tonight,” he said, “is if I get a chance to tell you how I voted,” he said.
When he asked whether “people who are 28 years old that can work and refuse to work should get free healthcare?” the audience responded by cheering. 
“I don’t think that the majority of Nebraskans agree with you,” he responded. 
62% of Americans support work requirements for the able-bodied receiving Medicaid, according to a recent Kaiser Family Foundation <a href="https://www.kff.org/medicaid/poll-finding/kff-health-tracking-poll-public-views-on-potential-changes-to-medicaid/">poll</a>.
One attendee called him a fascist. “Fascists don’t hold town halls with open question and answer sessions,” Flood replied.
The session ended with audience members screaming, “Vote him out.”

Republican leaders have <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/04/us/politics/gop-town-hall.html">discouraged</a> members of their party from hosting town halls during the current August recess, anticipating waves of hostile Democrat protesters in the wake of the Trump administration’s DOGE cuts and the Big Beautiful Bill. 

Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC), the chairman of House Republicans’ campaign arm, suggested Republicans host tele-town halls or Facebook Live events, which would allow them to filter rage-bait questions and comments. 
Rep. Flood insisted on having an in-person gathering. Speaking to reporters after the event, he said he believed that showing up was part of the job. 
“This doesn’t get better unless we show up in the town square,” he said. “If you feel strongly about what you’re doing in Congress, then stand in the town square, tell them why you voted that way.”
However, he announced that this town hall would be his “third and final one for the year,” and suggested he might find an alternative format for his next event.

An American anti-Israel activist called for “death to America” and “death to Israel” earlier this month while speaking at a rally in Iran.
&#8220;Thank you for welcoming us to your beautiful country,” Calla Walsh <a href="https://www.memri.org/tv/us-activist-calla-walsh-tehran-death-to-america-israel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> at a “martyr’s ceremony” in Tehran. “We do not deserve such kindness, and such strength,” Walsh began.
“We all have a duty, when we go back to the countries we come from, to share the truth we saw here, and to struggle against Zionism and imperialism. Glory to all the martyrs. Glory to the Axis of Resistance. May we see victory within our lifetime.”
She concluded by chanting in Farsi: “Death to America! Death to Israel!&#8221;
The ceremony, which took place on July 20, was intended to “honor the memory of martyrs from the realms of culture, art, and media who were killed tragically during the 12-day resistance against the Zionist regime.”
It was part of a multi-day “Condemning Terrorism Against Media” <a href="https://www.presstv.ir/Detail/2025/07/17/751367/Global-exposure-of-Zionist-crimes--Intl--journalists-witness-Israel-s-terrorist-wounds-Tehran" target="_blank" rel="noopener">event</a> organized by the World Service of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, the state’s official broadcasting network. Walsh was one of 15 international “journalists” invited to attend.

She later posted that she was detained and questioned for a few hours by a “Gestapo agent” but that it was “nothing that I didn’t expect.”
The 21-year-old Boston native and <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/11/25/news/disney-channel-actress-arrested-for-vandalizing-nh-israeli-company/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">former Disney Channel actress</a> has 58,000 followers on X, including Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN). Her father, Chris Walsh, is an English professor at Boston University and her mother, Mary Sullivan Walsh, works at Harvard Extension School.

She later left the DSA over its “support for zionist <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/06/21/jamaal-bowman-israel-trip-reelection-00163788" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jamaal Bowman</a>”, a former congressman from New York.
“I phased out of that shit in high school. How embarrassing and shameful it is to be in a zionist organization with AOC and other genocidaires,” she <a href="https://x.com/CallaWalsh/status/1947277076857335958" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> on July 21.
Now, she identifies as a communist and works as an organizer with Palestine Action USA, which describes itself as a “network dismantling zionism &amp; US imperialism” through “direct action.” The UK branch was recently designated by its government as a <a href="https://www.the-independent.com/news/uk/home-news/palestine-action-protest-banned-proscribed-court-b2798925.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">terrorist organization</a>.
Walsh spent 60 days in jail for vandalizing the Elbit Systems facility in New York, and is currently facing charges for a similar attack in Massachusetts. Elbit Systems is an Israeli international defense company and a particular target of Palestine Action.
“If you still say the answer is to email Congress / do police-permitted parades / repeat the same lib tactics for years to no avail, you are woefully misunderstanding the nature of our enemy &amp; lying to the people about what resistance means in order to exempt yourselves from it,” Walsh <a href="https://x.com/CallaWalsh/status/1794977865705931101" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> on the subject in May.
Walsh was <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/19/us/teens-massachusetts-elections.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">featured</a> in a 2021 New York Times piece that hailed her as “an influential new force in Democratic politics.” NPR <a href="https://www.npr.org/2021/06/13/1006085956/how-to-be-a-citizen-being-involved-in-civic-life-at-a-young-age" target="_blank" rel="noopener">promoted</a> her as a “good citizen” and a model for youth.

President Donald Trump today suggested that he wasn’t opposed to jailing Hillary Clinton for her role in the 2016 <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/07/27/us-news/cia-director-teases-more-files-tying-russiagate-to-hillary-clinton/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Russiagate conspiracy</a>.
The president’s comments came during an appearance on New York Post reporter Miranda Divine’s “Pod Force One” <a href="https://youtu.be/uDij8JJIS-A?si=ZSfbgfl0aYIONGA3">podcast</a>. The president was responding to the <a href="https://www.dni.gov/index.php/newsroom/press-releases/press-releases-2025/4086-pr-15-25" target="_blank" rel="noopener">declassified</a> information on Russiagate that was released earlier this month by his Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard.
“We had Hillary Clinton down to whatever we wanted to do with her,” Trump said, noting that he “felt it was inappropriate” to prosecute her.
“She&#8217;s the wife of a president. She was a Secretary of State. We could’ve done a very big number.”
“And I said, we don’t want to be doing that…the concept of putting her in jail, indicting her, all the things that you have to do.”
He said that at the time, he wanted to focus on the country. “I said, no, no &#8230; we just won. We have to get back to — we want to heal.”
Trump said that he feels differently now.
“I was the one that killed it. And then they do the same thing to me. I just want to be fair.”
“Ultimately, it’s up to Pam,” he added, referencing Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Trump has consistently called the allegations that he colluded with Russia to prop up his campaign in the 2016 presidential elections a hoax and an act of “treason” that “put the country in danger.”
Gabbard stated in a <a href="https://www.dni.gov/index.php/newsroom/press-releases/press-releases-2025/4086-pr-15-25" target="_blank" rel="noopener">press release</a> accompanying the documents that she has referred all lawmakers involved to the DOJ for possible criminal prosecution.
“No matter how powerful, every person involved in this conspiracy must be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, to ensure nothing like this ever happens again,” she said.
“Their goal was to subvert the will of the American people and enact what was essentially a years-long coup with the objective of trying to usurp the President from fulfilling the mandate bestowed upon him by the American people.”
CIA director <a href="https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/us-politics/cia-ratcliffe-hillary-clinton-russiagate-obama-b2797356.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">John Ratcliffe</a> said that Hillary Clinton, former President Barack Obama, former CIA director John Brennan, and former FBI director James Comey have all been referred to the Justice Department for investigation and could face prosecution, though Obama is likely protected under <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-says-scotus-immunity-ruling-likely-helps-obama-light-gabbard-dni-findings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">presidential immunity</a>.
Bondi has appointed a <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/07/24/us-news/pam-bondi-launches-strike-force-after-declassified-intel-reveals-obama-admins-flawed-2016-trump-russia-probe/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">strike force</a> to investigate the documents.

The Department of Justice on Tuesday <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/07/28/james-boasberg-justice-department-complaint-00480938?nname=playbook&amp;nid=0000014f-1646-d88f-a1cf-5f46b7bd0000&amp;nrid=00000155-9c90-dad1-ad7d-fed474bb0000" target="_blank" rel="noopener">filed</a> a misconduct complaint against James Boasberg, chief judge of the U.S. District Court in Washington, for “improper” comments he made about President Donald Trump at a meeting of federal judges in March.
Boasberg claimed at the biannual closed-door meeting of the Judicial Conference of the United States that he was concerned the Trump administration “would disregard rulings of federal courts, leading to a constitutional crisis.”
The <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/26033573-dojboasbergcomp072825/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">complaint</a>, authored by Attorney General Pam Bondi’s chief of staff Chad Mizelle, alleges that Boasberg strayed from traditional topics to “attempt to improperly influence” the other justices, many of whom are presiding over active litigation involving President Trump.
“These comments have undermined the integrity of the judiciary, and we will not stand for that,” Attorney General Pam Bondi <a href="https://x.com/AGPamBondi/status/1949974166205034753" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote on X</a>.
Boasberg has come under fire for his <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/judge-blocking-deportations-of-venezuelan-gang-threatens-trump-admin-with-consequences?author=Hank+Berrien&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Judge+Blocking+Deportations+Of+Venezuelan+Gang+Threatens+Trump+Admin+With+%E2%80%98Consequences%E2%80%99" target="_blank" rel="noopener">attempts to block</a> the Trump administration’s deportation policies, filing a temporary restraining order blocking the administration’s efforts to deport hundreds of illegal aliens and <a href="https://www.npr.org/2025/03/16/nx-s1-5329777/tren-de-aragua-all-you-need-to-know-about-the-venezuelan-gang" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tren de Aragua</a> members to El Salvador, citing an abuse of due process.
The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/meet-the-obama-appointed-judge-trying-to-stop-trump-from-deporting-criminal-illegals" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Obama appointee</a>, who threatened the Trump administration with “consequences” if it continued its deportations, later had his order vacated by the Supreme Court. Last month, the Supreme Court made a landmark ruling against the constitutionality of <a href="https://www.npr.org/2025/06/27/nx-s1-5448821/universal-injunction-supreme-court-executive-order-birthright" target="_blank" rel="noopener">universal injunctions</a>, which lower courts were using to unilaterally block executive orders from being enforced.
The Justice Department’s complaint alleges that, following the conference, Boasberg “began acting on his preconceived belief that the Trump administration would not follow court orders.”
The complaint alleges that “Boasberg rushed the government through complex litigation, sometimes giving the Trump Administration less than 48 hours to respond and threatening criminal-contempt proceedings and the appointment of an outside prosecutor against senior Trump Administration officials for failing to comply with an order that had already been vacated.”
The Judicial Conference serves as the policymaking body for the federal court system and is headed by Chief Justice John Roberts. Its 27 members include each of the chief justices of the 13 federal circuits and a district judge from each circuit.
It is strictly reserved for discussing policy issues related to the federal courts, such as &#8220;budget, security, and facilities.”
“Although his comments would be inappropriate even if they had some basis, they were even worse because Judge Boasberg had no basis,” the complaint reads. It claims that the Trump administration has “always complied with court orders,” noting that Boasberg failed to provide examples of noncompliance alongside his remarks.
University of California, Berkeley law professor John Yoo criticized Boasberg in a recent interview for using an “inappropriate setting” to “try to get the Chief Justice of the United States to give his opinion on whether there is a constitutional crisis between the courts and the presidency.”
He said that Bosenberg was “trying to entrap the Chief Justice of the United States and get him on the record and join him to almost approve what he’s doing to spark this fight with President Trump.”
The complaint requests an investigation into Bosenberg’s conduct. If Bosenberg is found to have engaged in “willful misconduct,” the Justice Department is asking for a public reprimand and consideration of impeachment by the Judicial Conference.

A new show imagines how a Chinese invasion of Taiwan would transpire — and what consequences it would have.
“Zero Day Attack” —  a 10-part series that draws its <a href="https://csrc.nist.gov/glossary/term/zero_day_attack" target="_blank" rel="noopener">name</a> from a cyber attack that takes advantage of an unknown system vulnerability — premieres in Taiwan this week. The show, which is funded in part by the Taiwan Ministry of Culture, highlights <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/with-future-at-risk-taiwan-prepares-citizens-to-resist-potential-chinese-invasion" target="_blank" rel="noopener">growing concerns</a> that the country is not prepared for a war with China.
Some hope it will serve as a wake-up call to the Taiwanese public.
“Presenting such a situation (of conflict) can lead to more discussion about what we should do if it really turns into reality one day,” said Blair Yeh, a 35-year-old engineer, after watching the first episode at the Taipei premier last week.
The show’s 17-minute <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAnZdVG041Y" target="_blank" rel="noopener">preview</a>, which was released last year, depicts a multi-staged hybrid attack by China. It begins when the disappearance of a Chinese plane over Taiwanese waters prompts the People’s Liberation Army to blockade the island.
Stock markets crash, and foreign governments start to evacuate their citizens. Small-scale civil war breaks out as citizens disagree on whether to fight or accede to annexation by China. China pressures jails into releasing criminals and recruits them to serve as a “fifth column.” Utter chaos follows before Chinese troops finally land on the island, formally beginning a war.
Taiwanese producers were long unwilling to tackle the subject, fearing retaliation and boycotts from China. And apprehensions remain: more than half of the show’s crew opted to remain anonymous, and some, including a director, pulled out at the last minute.
Producer Cheng Hsin-mei told the <a href="https://www.wsj.com/world/asia/nightmares-of-a-chinese-invasion-inspire-taboo-breaking-entertainment-in-taiwan-d67764d9?utm_source=chatgpt.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wall Street Journal</a> that she conceived “Zero Day” years ago, but felt the social climate wasn’t right at the time. She says the war in Ukraine pushed her to bring the show to air.
“On the surface, Taiwanese people may not seem to feel the threat, but in reality, that fear exists,” she said of a shift in the public psyche.
The premiere comes as China sends increased signals that it is preparing to attack the island, which it considers its own territory. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth <a href="https://theweek.com/news/world-news/asia-pacific/954343/what-would-happen-china-attempt-invade-taiwan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> at the 2025 Shangri-la Dialogue Defense Summit that a Chinese invasion of the island “could be imminent.”
Per the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979, the United States is committed to providing arms for Taiwan to defend itself against possible attacks from China. However, it does not require the United States to use force on Taiwan’s behalf.
Nevertheless, the United States and 19 allied countries are conducting joint <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/papering-over-strains-us-allies-prep-taiwan-war-2025-07-25/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">military exercises</a> in the Pacific to build military readiness and to serve as a deterrent for Chinese aggression, in what are “the largest and most sophisticated military drills held in the Pacific since the end of World War Two.”
Speaking at the summit, Hegseth <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c071xm4x7g7o" target="_blank" rel="noopener">affirmed</a> that “We do not seek to dominate or strangle China, to encircle or provoke. We do not seek regime change… but we must ensure that China cannot dominate us or our allies and partners.”
“We will not be pushed out of this critical region,” he added.
“Zero Day Attack” will begin streaming for American audiences on Amazon Prime on August 15, the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II.

The Justice Department subpoenaed Boston Children’s Hospital for alleged healthcare fraud related to sex-change surgeries for minors, <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/news/exclusive-boston-childrens-hospital-subpoenaed-by-doj-over-gender-transition-procedures-for-minors/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">National Review</a> reported Monday.
The department <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/department-justice-subpoenas-doctors-and-clinics-involved-performing-transgender-medical?utm_source=semafor" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> earlier this month that it was investigating hospitals “involved in performing transgender medical procedures on children” for “healthcare fraud, false statements, and more.”
“Medical professionals and organizations that mutilated children in the service of a warped ideology will be held accountable by this Department of Justice,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said in the memo.
In <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/protecting-children-from-chemical-and-surgical-mutilation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">January, Trump</a> signed an executive order banning federal funding for sex-change surgeries for minors. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed a rule change this month to implement the order. In May, CMS sent a letter to hospitals requesting “financial data for all pediatric sex trait modifications” that are “paid, in whole or in part, by the federal government.”
Some hospitals have <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/news/kaiser-permanente-to-pause-transgender-surgeries-for-teenagers-nationwide/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">paused</a> programs or even <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/news/l-a-childrens-closes-trans-youth-center-under-pressure-from-trump-admin-joins-growing-list-of-closures/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">closed</a> their clinics offering gender transition interventions to minors following Trump’s executive orders.
However, according to whistleblowers — including adults who regret their sex-transition surgeries and surgeon Eithan Haim — others are finding ways of getting around the ban.
Whistleblower testimony claims that hospitals use deceptive billing codes to hide sex change surgeries for children while making insurance claims under federal programs like Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
The hospital didn’t address the specific allegations.
“Boston Children’s Hospital is committed to providing safe, evidence-based, and compassionate care to every patient and family we serve,” a Boston Children’s Hospital spokesman told National Review.
The hospital has a history of politically motivated healthcare.
While the hospital has <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/internet/boston-childrens-hospital-warns-employees-far-right-online-harassment-rcna43376" target="_blank" rel="noopener">denied</a> performing sex-change surgeries on minors, an <a href="https://www.mdpi.com/2077-0383/11/7/1943" target="_blank" rel="noopener">article</a> published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine by faculty members claims that its Center for Gender Surgery is “the first pediatric center in the United States to offer gender-affirming chest surgeries for individuals over 15 years old and genital surgeries for those over 17 years of age.”
Last year, Boston Children’s faced backlash after halving its assessment time for children requesting life-altering transgender medical interventions. Laura Edwards-Leeper, who was the founding psychologist for the hospital’s gender clinic, the first of its kind in the United States, called the decision “<a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14035429/boston-children-hospital-doctor-fury-transgender-surgery.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">crazy</a>.”
Boston Children’s is one of three hospitals currently being <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/fbi-launches-probes-against-3-childrens-hospitals-genital-mutilation-minors" target="_blank" rel="noopener">investigated</a> by the FBI for potential violation of a federal statute that condemns female genital mutilation.
The Justice Department has issued subpoenas to 20 medical establishments in total. While it did not reveal the names of the establishments in its memo, the <a href="https://coloradosun.com/2025/07/18/childrens-hospital-colorado-subpoena-gender-affirming-care/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Children’s Hospital Colorado</a> has stated that it is also under investigation.

Vice President JD Vance defended the Trump administration’s immigration policies in a speech Wednesday, predicting that the United States was on the cusp of “net negative immigration.”
Speaking at an artificial intelligence summit hosted by the All In Podcast and the Hill and Valley Forum in Washington, the vice president addressed conservative critics who claim the White House is not doing enough to fight illegal immigration.
Noting that the Trump administration has faced legal and practical struggles while pursuing its goal of <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ice-deportations-trump-six-months/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">1 million</a> deportations this year, Vance nevertheless said that if you consider the “net number” of deportations, the Trump administration has been “wildly successful.”
“In 2025 we will have the first net negative immigration number in about 50 or 60 years in the United States,” Vance said.
He also responded to the argument that more deportations occurred under Biden.
“That’s actually a completely fake statistic. It’s based on the fact that if you come into the country illegally, and then the Biden administration processes you and sends you out, that counts as a deportation.”
Border Patrol didn’t release a single illegal into the United States in May, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/06/17/us-news/border-agents-didnt-release-a-single-illegal-migrant-into-the-us-last-month-border-patrol/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. By contrast, 62,000 illegal migrants crossed the border in the same month last year.
During his address Vance also criticized companies — calling out Microsoft specifically — for performing mass layoffs while actively applying for H1-B visas.
H1-B visas are <a href="https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/immigration/h1b" target="_blank" rel="noopener">temporary work permits</a> that allow American companies to employ foreign nonimmigrant skilled workers in “specialty occupations.” There is a cap on how many H1-B visas can be issued per year, currently set at 65,000.
&#8220;You see some big tech companies where they&#8217;ll lay off 9,000 workers, and then they&#8217;ll apply for a bunch of overseas visas. And I sort of wonder; that doesn&#8217;t totally make sense to me,” Vance said, seemingly referencing Microsoft, who announced their latest round of layoffs earlier this month which would affect <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/07/02/microsoft-laying-off-about-9000-employees-in-latest-round-of-cuts.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">9,000</a> employees, or 4% of their workforce.
&#8220;That displacement and that math worries me a bit. And what the president has said, he said very clearly: we want the very best and the brightest to make America their home. We want them to build great companies and so forth.”
“But I don&#8217;t want companies to fire 9,000 American workers and then to go and say, &#8216;We can&#8217;t find workers here in America,&#8217;” Vance added. “That&#8217;s a bulls*** story.&#8221;
Rumours were circulating on X after Microsoft announced its layoffs that it has applied for over 6,000 H1-B visas since the start of the fiscal year in October. Though the rumours are currently unsubstantiated, last year Microsoft applied for and <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/microsoft-layoffs-h1b-visa-applications-2094370" target="_blank" rel="noopener">received</a> 9,491 H1-B visas.
This comes as multiple big tech companies collectively committed to investing $90 billion into developing AI infrastructure in Pennsylvania at a <a href="https://www.wsj.com/tech/ai/trump-to-tout-billions-in-investments-to-create-ai-hub-in-pennsylvania-1e9afa89?utm_source=chatgpt.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">summit</a> that Trump attended last week. Trump also signed <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/07/23/trump-ai-action-plan-big-tech/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">three executive orders</a> on Wednesday that will deregulate and encourage investment in the AI industry.
“We created the digital age, and now we are leading the world into the golden age,” Trump said at the signing. “With your help, that golden age will be built by American workers. It will be powered by American energy. It will be run on American technology, improved by American artificial intelligence,” he told tech companies.

The House Judiciary Committee this week revealed that under the Biden administration, the FBI spied on a Catholic priest who refused to disclose private conversations with a parishioner who was arrested.
FBI employees at the Richmond field office discussed the priest’s ordination, recruitment efforts, location, and credit card information through email. They also communicated with their London office to monitor him during a trip to the United Kingdom, according to the <a href="https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/pdfs/judiciarycommitteereport.pdf">report</a>.
They launched a “formal investigative assessment” against the priest after he refused to answer whether a parishioner had expressed “desires and plans to commit violence.” The employee wrote in an email to the counterterrorism unit at FBI headquarters that the priest “became very uncomfortable and started incoherently stuttering.”
He said the priest “requested to speak with the church’s leadership and attorneys” and “refused to speak with us any further but has continued to speak with [the parishioner] while in prison, and even attempted to visit him.”
He also incorrectly stated in his email that the priest’s communications were “not considered privileged” since the parishioner “has not completed his catechism or been baptized in the Church.”
Virginia law <a href="https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title19.2/chapter16/section19.2-271.3/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">protects</a> confidential communications between ministers of religion and any “persons they counsel or advise.”
“The priest-penitent privilege rightly protects communications between a clergy member and an individual seeking spiritual guidance,” the House Judiciary Committee report notes. “It is not dependent on the individual achieving certain milestones in his or her spiritual life.”
The report determined that the Richmond office’s investigation was unlawful: “There appeared to be no legitimate law-enforcement purpose for investigating this priest.”
The report, which was compiled by the Committee and Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, was issued in response to a 2023 leaked <a href="https://judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/republicans-judiciary.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/fbi-anti-catholic-memo.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">memo</a> from the Richmond FBI field office that revealed the agency attempting to link “Radical-Traditionalist Catholic ideology” to violent racism and the “far-right white nationalist movement.”
It found that the Richmond office was gathering intelligence on “Radical-Traditionalist Catholics &#8220;(RTC), a group which, the committee notes, FBI staff couldn’t even define.
A presentation titled “Traditionalist Catholicism Overview” outlined their “core ideology and beliefs.”
“Core concepts” included the Traditional Latin Mass, “conservative family values/roles,” a “rejection of modernity,” and a “tendency toward isolationism.”
It alleged that radical Catholics’ main tenets include the “belief that mainline Catholicism is illegitimate” and were accused of holding “hardline positions on abortion, LGBTQ matters, and interreligious dialogue.”
It also claimed that RTC contains “apocalyptic overtones,” “rigid fundamentalism [and] integralism,” and an “undertone of antisemitism.”
In its information gathering, the FBI used “politically biased and anti-Catholic source material,” the report notes. Many of the articles they cited openly accuse Catholics of being white supremacists. One article titled “The Catholic Church has a Visible White Power Faction” from Sojourner, a progressive Christian publication, was <a href="https://sojo.net/magazine/august-2020/catholic-church-has-visible-white-power-faction" target="_blank" rel="noopener">taken down</a> at one point because of misleading statements that editors claimed “called into question the entire substance of the article.”
The FBI also relied heavily on the Southern Poverty Law Center, a “far-left, anti-religion group that focuses on labeling conservative leaning groups as &#8216;hate&#8217; groups.” The SPLC considers groups like Focus on the Family, a global evangelical ministry widely popular in Christian circles, to be hate groups for opposing LGBTQ and abortion.
“The FBI analysts who developed the Richmond memorandum relied on literature with an inherent prejudice against people of faith and those with widely-held, deeply personal views of the sanctity of life,” the Committee notes.
Though former FBI director Christopher Wray minimized the significance of the 2023 memo, saying that it was a single product of a single office, the committee found that the Richmond office was working with FBI headquarters and that its “religious liberty abuses were more widespread than the FBI initially admitted and led the public to believe.”
Employees worked with FBI headquarters to develop a “Strategic Perspective Executive Analytic Report” for external use. They pitched the project to headquarters in December 2022, a month after the memo was created. It was later abandoned after the memo was leaked to the public.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) said in a <a href="https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/265497/judiciary-committee-fbi-spied-on-catholic-priest-for-not-divulging-info-on-parishioner" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> to the Catholic News Agency that lawmakers “knew the Biden-Wray FBI was targeting Catholics, but new documents obtained by the committee — thanks to the leadership of FBI Director [Kash] Patel — shows that it was worse than anyone thought.”
“Contrary to Director Wray’s statements, the targeting of Catholics went beyond the Richmond Field Office and extended not to just offices across the country but around the world.”

Former NPR CEO Vivian Schiller <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/former-npr-ceo-admits-mixing-journalism-federal-funding-recipe-disaster">said</a> in an MSNBC interview Monday that “I have long believed that mixing journalism and federal funding is just a recipe for disaster.” 
This comes as the Senate <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/house-rescissions-foreign-aid-public-media/">passed</a> Trump’s $9 billion rescissions package on Sunday, which is awaiting the President’s signature to become law. The bill repeals over $1 billion in federal funding allocated to public media, including broadcast corporations like PBS and NPR. 
“In many ways, I think this is an opportunity for a reset,” Schiller said. “I think the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which was a very bureaucratic organization that was, still is today, doling out that money, will go away. Let’s reset. Let’s come up with a new governance structure.”
Opponents argued the cuts will largely affect local news stations and rural Americans. 
CPB president Patricia Harrison said that “many local public radio and television stations will be forced to shut down.”
Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), top Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, <a href="https://thehill.com/business/budget/5409384-trump-public-media-foreign-aid-cuts/">told</a> the Hill that rural communities are “frightened to death” that “they’re not going to have access to important information or alerts about weather situations, information that they need to know, education for their kids, because they’re not in communities where there are multiple sources of information.”
Schiller disagreed on the necessity of local news being impaired by the cuts: &#8220;Those of us that care about local journalism are going to help them,&#8221; she said. “The fact is this is done. The money is gone. The rescission has happened. So my perspective now is let’s move on.&#8221;
She added, &#8220;I tend to look at the bright side of life and say let’s just find a better way forward, because there were problems with the former system.&#8221;
The rescissions bill passed the House 51-48, largely along party lines. Republicans have long accused NPR and PBS of having a liberal <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/npr-head-asks-critics-show-me-story-proves-liberal-bias-amid-defunding-threats">bias</a>.
“NPR reported that country music and birds are racist, told American people to stop eating beef, and promoted the Russia-gate conspiracy. No person with a brain above a single-celled organism would call these articles fair and balanced,” Senator John Kennedy said in a series of <a href="https://x.com/SenJohnKennedy/status/1945554069289853418">posts to X</a> on Wednesday in response to current NPR CEO Katherine Maher’s challenge to Republicans to find one clear example of bias. 
&#8220;NPR reported that there is no evidence that biological men have an unfair advantage over biological women in sports. NPR also called America’s interstate highways racist. I did not know our highways were racist. I thought they were concrete, but not according to NPR.”

Malcolm-Jamal Warner, most known for his role as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, died on Sunday at 54 during a family vacation in Costa Rica.
Warner was swimming at a beach in Cocles de Limón when a current pulled him into deeper waters, and he drowned, Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Department stated, <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/malcolm-jamal-warner-dead-drowning-costa-rica/">per</a> CBS News.
&#8220;He was rescued by people on the beach,&#8221; according to an initial report, but first responders were unable to revive him.
The Costa Rican National Police reported asphyxia as the official cause of death, ABC News <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/malcolm-jamal-warner-former-cosby-show-star-dead/story?id=123932998">reported</a>.
Warner is most known for playing Theo on &#8220;The Cosby Show,&#8221; a sitcom that aired from 1984-1992 and centered around the Huxtables, an upper-middle-class black American family living in Brooklyn, New York. He was nominated for an Emmy in 1986 for his role as supporting actor in the series.
The show’s reputation was tainted after Bill Cosby, who played Cliff Huxtable, the father, and also co-produced the show, was charged with multiple counts of sexual assault.
Despite this, Warner told <a href="https://people.com/malcolm-jamal-warner-cosby-show-dead-54-11775980">People</a> in 2023 that he is still proud of his work: &#8220;Regardless of how some people may feel about the show now, I&#8217;m still proud of the legacy and having been a part of such an iconic show that had such a profound impact on — first and foremost, Black culture — but also American culture,&#8221; Warner said.
Speaking of his fellow cast members, he said that &#8220;We share a unique experience that keeps us lovingly bonded no matter how much time goes between seeing or hearing from each other.”
Warner paired up with comedian Eddie Griffin to produce his own sitcom &#8220;Malcolm and Eddie,&#8221; which lasted from 1996 to 2000. More recently, he starred as Chuck Cooper in &#8220;Major Crimes,&#8221; as Julius Rowe in &#8220;Suits,&#8221; and as AJ Austin in &#8220;The Resident.&#8221;
His latest venture was a podcast he launched in 2024 alongside cohosts Weusi Baraka and Candace Kelley titled Not All Hood, discussing cultural trends and issues relevant to Black Americans.
“It&#8217;s been an interesting experience for me, because it&#8217;s a place where I feel safe enough to be able to be as vulnerable as I allow myself to be,” he told PEOPLE.
Fans are paying tribute on social media. “That man gave us one of the greatest scenes in the history of television. I cannot even believe this. I am over here SOBBING! Rest in poetry, Malcolm Jamal Warner,” one X user <a href="https://x.com/PettyLupone/status/1947351205086204408?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">posted</a>.
“RIP to the great Malcolm Jamal Warner, my generation grew up on him,” another <a href="https://x.com/Finalbossjimmy/status/1947349396519018870">said</a>.
Warner is survived by his wife and daughter.
