Country star John Rich offered to put on a free concert for the University of North Carolina students who went viral earlier this week as they defended the American flag from anti-Israel protesters.

The images of the young men, who are members of the UNC-Chapel Hill chapter of Pi Kappa Phi, drew support after making rounds on the internet. The college students can be seen holding up the flag to keep it from touching the ground and not backing down despite being screamed at and pelted with water bottles and other items.

Their actions also drew the attention of Rich. He made his offer on X, writing, “For the boys who protected the American flag at UNC, I’d like to offer a free concert for their celebration of freedom party (anybody know how to find these young men?) Maybe we could talk …”

The “Save a Horse” singer followed up several hours later, saying he had been in contact and was setting up the show.

“I’ve made contact with the Patriots at UNC!” he shared on Wednesday night. “Working on a date to have a massive event to celebrate our flag and those who love her. I’ll keep ya’ll posted! Let’s call it #Flagstock Can you make Flagstock trend? LESSGO!”

A GoFundMe page raising money to throw the fraternity members a “rager” has raised more than $400,000 as of Thursday morning.

“Commie losers across the country have invaded college campuses to make dumb demands of weak University Administrators,” the GoFundMe page says in part. “But amidst the chaos, the screaming, the anti-semitism, the hatred of faith and flag, stood a platoon of American heroes. Armored in Vineyard Vines and Patagonia, fueled by Zyn and White Claws, these triumphant Brohemians protected Old Glory from the unwashed Marxist horde — laughing at their shrieks and wails and shielding the Stars & Stripes from Soviet missiles.”

Student Guillermo Estrada wrote about what happened on X, saying he was headed to class when he saw a Palestinian flag had been raised on the flag pole, which made him “immediately upset.” He said that he and his fraternity brothers went to assist the police officers who were replacing the American flag.

“My fraternity brother and others ran over to hold [the flag]  up, in order for it not to touch the ground. People began throwing water bottles at us, rocks, sticks, calling us profane names. We stood for an hour defending the flag so many fight to protect,” he wrote at the time.
