Woody Allen Accusations May Have Forced Amazon To Waste A Lot Of Money

   DailyWire.com

It’s looking like Amazon wasted a bunch of money on Woody Allen. After signing a multi-film deal with the director, the company appears to have decided to permanently bury the first film he produced for the deal, “A Rainy Day in New York,” after sinking $25 million into financing the film.

Despite including some big names and coming at a high price, Allen’s new film “has been shelved by Amazon and may never be released,” Page Six reports. “While the movie had been slated for 2018, Amazon now says, ‘No release date has ever been set for the film.'”

Also apparently on indefinite hold are the three additional movies Allen is supposed to produce for Amazon under the deal.

A Rainy Day in New York,” which is about two young people who “arrive in New York for a weekend where they are met with bad weather and a series of adventures,” stars Selena Gomez, Jude Law, Timothée Chalamet and Elle Fanning.

After wrapping last year, the film has become something of a pariah as the #MeToo movement inspired new attention on allegations of sexual abuse against Allen by his estranged adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow.

In December, Farrow penned an op-ed published by the Los Angeles Times accusing Allen of sexually abusing her when she was seven years old, an allegation she has maintained for over two decades which has been publicly supported by some family members, including Mia and Ronan Farrow, and disputed by others, including Moses Farrow. Dylan partly credited the #MeToo movement for inspiring the renewed interest in her allegations.

In response to the op-ed, Allen’s representative issued a statement reiterating his insistence that Dylan’s claims are false. “Dylan Farrow’s allegations against Woody Allen, which she first made 25 years ago, have been thoroughly examined by law enforcement officials and child welfare investigators,” said Allen’s representative. “The investigators concluded unambiguously that Dylan Farrow was not sexually abused. No charges were ever filed, and the reason is simple: because Woody Allen is innocent.”

In January, reports began to circulate that Amazon might never let “A Rain Day” see the light of day. Those early reports appear to have gotten the story right. As the Daily Wire’s Emily Zanotti noted at the time, scrutiny over Amazon’s handling of the Allen situation was heightened by the context of the deal: “The Amazon executive who initially inked the deal with Allen, Roy Price, has since resigned from the company over allegations that he, too, engaged in sexually harassing behavior in the workplace.”
