“West Side Story” star Rachel Zegler recently revealed the health scare she went through at 19-years-old when she found a lump in her breast and how it’s motivated her to promote the idea that early detection saves lives.

The 21-year-old actress posted a message on her Instagram stories detailing what she went through two years ago, Entertainment Tonight reported.

“Two years ago I found a lump in my breast and went through what was undoubtedly the scariest week of my life,” Zegler wrote over a photo of the scar she was left with after undergoing a procedure to find out if the lump was benign or not.

“No OB/GYN was taking new patients due to the backlog of the pandemic, but I was fortunate to have the care of my pediatrician who prescribed me an ultrasound, which led to an out-patient biopsy procedure,” she added. “Thankfully it was benign.”

“And now the scar serves as a reminder to check my breasts regularly for any irregular growth – the fibroadenoma in my left breast is a common occurrence but nevertheless extremely scary to find,” Zegler continued. “Early detection saves lives!!! Check your titty meat :).”

The young actress got her big break when she landed the role of Maria in Steven Spielberg’s 2021 “West Side Story” remake. She will soon grace the big screen once again when she appears in the live-action adaptation of “Snow White” as the famed princess. She will star alongside actress Gal Gadot who landed the role of the evil queen in the remake of the 1937 film.

Zegler recently spoke about the ups and downs of fame and credited her relationship with her family for keeping her sane as a young star, Elle magazine noted.

“I truly think that I would’ve lost my mind if I didn’t have her [mom] there, even after I turned 18,” Rachel shared about her mom quitting her job to be with her every day on the set of “West Side Story. “I’m across the world now, and I miss that.”
