WATCH: Trump Denounces Globalism In U.N. Speech

In President Donald Trump’s Tuesday morning speech at the United Nations he affirmed that the United States “reject[s] the ideology of globalism,” and instead embraces “the doctrine of patriotism.”

Trump used the speech to criticize the U.N. Human Rights Council which he describes as a “grave embarrassment” for “shielding egregious human rights abusers while bashing America and its many friends.” The U.S. withdrew from the council in June.

He also emphasized that the United States does not support the International Criminal Court which has been looking into investigating U.S. military members who served in Afghanistan for alleged war crimes.

“The United States will provide no support and recognition to the International Criminal Court,” he said. “As far as America is concerned, the ICC has no jurisdiction, no legitimacy, and no authority.”

Trump rejected what he says is the ICC’s claim to “universal jurisdiction over the citizens of every country,” adding that this violates “principles of justice, fairness, and due process.”

“We will never surrender America’s sovereignty to an unelected, unaccountable global bureaucracy,” he said.

Earlier this month, Ambassador Nikki Haley announced that the U.S. would no longer “give money to people who are against the U.S., or say, ‘Death to America.’ or do anything that would be anti-U.S.”

Trump echoed this in his speech and said that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will be looking into cutting U.S. foreign aid to countries which do not have “our interests at heart.”

“Moving forward, we are only going to give foreign aid to those who respect us and frankly our — our friends,” he said. “And we expect other countries to pay their fair share for the cost of their defense.”
