On Monday’s episode of “The View,” co-host Joy Behar lost her cool after counterpart Meghan McCain admonished Behar for falling back on her typical Trump-bashing during what was supposed to be a segment honoring the late former President George W. H. Bush.
After co-host Abby Huntsman spoke about Bush’s legacy and wished future generations would “learn from him,” Behar predictably turned the focus toward President Donald Trump and his alleged undoing of environmental protections.
“This president that we have now is trying to unravel everything that [Bush] did and Obama did,” whined Behar. “And if I ever become a one-issue voter, it will be about pollution and the greenhouse effect.”
McCain quickly jumped in: “Can we focus on [Bush], please? I don’t want to talk about Trump,” she interrupted. “We’re honoring a great president who passed.”
The 34-year-old’s father, war hero and Republican Senator John McCain, passed away this summer from brain cancer.
“Excuse me,” Behar attempted to defend herself. “Excuse me a second, please, I want to talk about the differences!”
“I’m not interested in your one-issue voter –” started McCain.
“I don’t care what you’re interested in, I’m talking!” interrupted Behar.
Meeting Behar’s tone, McCain responded, “I don’t care what you’re interested in, either!”
The two are seen continuing their shouting match as co-host Whoopi Goldberg ends the segment and throws to a commercial break.
Behar has made it a habit to attack President Trump, usually with outlandish rhetoric. She’s called on “sociopath” Trump to resign from office and “joked” about the president’s health in September.
“This man will never apologize, if he lives another 20 years, God forbid,” Behar said, before catching herself. “Not God forbid. … If he lives another 20 years, he could be like 105 … He will never ever backtrack.” She later clarified that she doesn’t “wish the president ill.”
Behar has also mocked Vice President Pence’s Christian faith, which she likened to a mental disorder, and in 2016 said she’d rather vote for a rapist than a conservative.
McCain is not exactly a fan of the president’s, either. While eulogizing her father, “The View” co-host seemingly bashed President Donald Trump.
“[My father] was a great fire who burned bright,” said McCain. “In the past few days, my family and I have heard from so many of those Americans who stood in the light and warmth his fire and found it illuminated what is best about them. We are grateful to them because they are grateful to him. … A few have resented that fire, for that light it cast upon them, for the truth it revealed about their character, but my father never cared what they thought and even that small number still had the opportunity as long as they draw breath to live up to the example of John McCain.”
“The America of John McCain is generous. It is welcoming and bold. She is resourceful and confident and secure. She meets her responsibilities. She speaks quietly because she is strong. America does not boast because she has no need to,” she continued. “The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again, because America was always great.”
Former President Bush’s funeral service will be held on Thursday.
