On Monday morning, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) unloaded on radical Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and her fellow “communist” freshman lawmakers for “hating” America and espousing “anti-Semitic” views.
“We all know that AOC (Ocasio-Cortez) and this crowd are a bunch of communists, they hate Israel, they hate our own country, they’re calling the guards along our border — the Border Patrol agents — concentration camp guards,” started in Graham, appearing on “Fox & Friends.”
“They accuse people who support Israel as doing it for the ‘Benjamins,’” he continued, a reference to past remarks from Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN). “They are anti-Semitic, they are anti-American, we don’t need to know anything about them personally, talk about their policies.”
Graham’s comments were made following tweets posted by President Donald Trump on Sunday regarding “‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen.” Trump suggested the radical congresswomen “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough.”
Graham said Trump was correct about the freshman lawmakers but suggested that the president resist the urge to get “personal.”
“I think they are American citizens who are duly elected that are running on an agenda that is disgusting, that the American people will reject,” he said. “Talk about what it means for America to have free healthcare for illegal immigrants, and no criminalization of coming into our country — see how that works for controlling immigration!”
“Their ideas, they’re anti-Semitic,” he again stated. “They talk about the Israel state as if they’re a bunch of thugs, not victims of the entire region. They wanted to impeach President Trump on day one. They are socialist, they’re anti-Semitic, they stand for all the things that most Americans disagree with. Make them the face of the future Democratic Party and you will destroy the Democratic Party.”
“Aim higher,” Graham said about Trump’s tweets. “They are American citizens, they won an election. Take on their policies. The bottom line here is, this is a diverse country.”
“Mr. President, you’re right about their policies, you’re right about where they’ll take the country, just aim higher,” he noted.
The Republican senator told Trump to avoid getting “personal” with his opposition. “Don’t take the bait,” the senator said to the president.
“You’re a good commander-in-chief, ISIS has been destroyed, our economy is humming, you’re trying to get control of a broken immigration system; their policies will destroy this country. Focus on what they want to do for America and to Americans and compare it with what you’ve done. Don’t get personal. Don’t take the bait. This is not about a person, it is about a country, it is about a set of ideas. They are on the wrong side of the future,” Graham said.
President Trump was apparently in agreement with most of what Mr. Graham said on “Fox & Friends,” as Trump posted excerpts from Graham’s appearance on his Twitter feed soon after it aired.
