WATCH: Ivanka Challenges AOC’s Socialist Agenda: People Don’t Want A ‘Guaranteed Minimum’

In an interview with Fox News host Steve Hilton that will air in full Sunday, First Daughter and White House Adviser Ivanka Trump pushed back on the premises of the policies promoted by democratic socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, saying she doesn’t believe Americans want a “guaranteed minimum” for their lives.

Ivanka’s comments were prompted by a question from Hilton, who said of the Green New Deal’s promise of a federal jobs guarantee: “You’ve got people who will see that offer from the Democrats, from the progressive Democrats, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: ‘Here’s the Green New Deal, here’s the guarantee of a job,’ and think, ‘Yeah, that’s what I want, it’s that simple.’ What do you say to those people?”

Trump responded by challenging the central premise of Ocasio-Cortez and Co.’s promises.

“I don’t think most Americans, in their heart, want to be given something,” she said. “I’ve spent a lot of time traveling around this country over the last four years. People want to work for what they get. So, I think that this idea of a guaranteed minimum is not something most people want.”

Instead, she said, Americans want agency and mobility. “They want the ability to be able to secure a job,” she said. “They want the ability to live in a country where’s there’s the potential for upward mobility.”

Asked about her father framing the 2020 election as a battle between his promotion of capitalism and Democrats’ increasing embrace of socialistic policies, Ivanka pointed to the results of her father’s pro-business policies versus other countries that are heavily socialist.

“I think fundamentally if you ask yourself the question, ‘Are we better today than we were yesterday or we were 2 years ago?’ the answer is, undoubtedly, yes,” she said. “So, as an American, families sitting down and thinking about their financial situation relative to a month ago or a year ago, America is doing very well and it stands in quite sharp contrast to the rest of the world. So, not only are we doing well, much of the world has slowed down in terms of the pace of their growth.”

Ocasio-Cortez, a self-described “democratic socialist,” has rapidly become one of the leading voices of the Democratic Party, and her radical Green New Deal has already gained a lot of support among her Democratic colleagues. The deal calls for the complete elimination of fossil fuels, guaranteed jobs, a federally mandated minimum wage, and Medicare-for-All.

On Monday, Bloomberg published the results of a study by a former Congressional Budget Office director that found that the Green New Deal would likely cost anywhere from $51 trillion to $93 trillion over 10 years.

“The so-called Green New Deal may tally between $51 trillion and $93 trillion over 10-years, concludes American Action Forum, which is run by Douglas Holtz-Eakin, who directed the non-partisan CBO from from 2003 to 2005,” Bloomberg reported. “That includes between $8.3 trillion and $12.3 trillion to meet the plan’s call to eliminate carbon emissions from the power and transportation sectors and between $42.8 trillion and $80.6 trillion for its economic agenda including providing jobs and health care for all.”
