On Friday, movie director Rob Reiner (Stand By Me, The Princess Bride), appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” where he told substitute host Nicolle Wallace that the Trump Administration is the first time that networks like Fox and Sinclair Broadcasting “aligned with a president of the United States.”
He went on to claim that the networks never aligned with John F. Kennedy, Bill Clinton, or Barack Obama.
Reiner launched into a tirade about the unproven Russia conspiracy surrounding the White House.
“This has never happened before in this country,” he opined. “You can see why the other side is putting out a full court press, because they know that what’s coming down the pipe, conceivably, it is the biggest scandal in American history and we are fighting right now for the soul of our democracy.”
Reiner then launched into a defense of the mainstream media, applauding them for their constant attacks against President Donald Trump.
“This has never happened before in this country,” he claimed. “You can see why the other side is putting out a full court press, because they know that what’s coming down the pipe, conceivably, it is the biggest scandal in American history and we are fighting right now for the soul of our democracy.”
The notion that the press has never aligned itself with a particularly party or president is, of course, absurd; the media’s left-leaning bias has simply come out into the open more as the result of the election of Trump.
That media coverage of Trump has been slanted is putting it mildly. Several studies over the last year have found that around 90% of the media coverage of Trump is negative. Many in the press continue to peddle the claims of a porn star who says she once had an affair with President Trump close to ten years ago while they ignored and, in some cases, covered up the sexual exploits of both JFK and Bill Clinton. After one of Trump’s advisors made a concerning comment about Arizona Senator John McCain’s illness, the media gave it wall-to-wall coverage. In the same vein, they ignored an Obama aid calling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a coward and a scatological term.
