A feminist on campus at the University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill was arrested and charged with larceny after stealing a sign from a peacefully protesting member of the pro-life group Created Equal named Austin Beigel.
In a video posted by the group, the feminist is captured grabbing an orange pro-life sign from Beigel’s hands. As she’s walking away with the group’s property, the woman ignores warnings that her actions equate to theft and that she’s walking right toward a police officer.
Sure enough, a police officer confronts the alleged thief moments before she’s able to toss the sign.
“Why’d you rip it out of his hands?” the officer asks.
“Because this restricts women’s rights,” the woman responds, pointing to the pro-life sign.
The officer informs her that she does not “have a right to take someone’s property” even if she doesn’t agree with the group’s protected speech. “You can ignore them,” he offers, adding, “They have a right to be here.”
“This is why women have such a problem getting abortions in North Carolina and y’all just let them get away with this s***,” the woman says, nearly breaking into tears.
The feminist is then arrested for larceny.
“I cannot believe this is happening,” she says.
Created Equal President Mark Harrington noted that the surprise on the woman’s face reveals that American campuses have become safe havens for “pro-abortion violence” for far too long.
“Students being groomed on college campuses to be leaders, writers, and thinkers of the Left are increasing in censorship and violence against those with whom they disagree. Their surprise when held accountable indicates college campuses have become safe spaces for pro-abortion violence. Students at UNC and campuses like it are in dire need of remedial First Amendment training,” Harrington said in a statement sent to The Daily Wire.
A pro-life activist from Created Equal was physically attacked by a feminist identified as Jillian Alexandra Ward on the same campus last month, The Daily Wire reported:
In a video posted by Created Equal, one of the male team members of the pro-life group is approached by a female student. “Did you put these [signs] up?” the feminist asks the pro-lifer. When he responds in the affirmative, the woman attacks him, punching him repeatedly in the face and kicking him.
“Pro-abortion activists are losing the argument, and instead of seeking debate they are escalating the violence on peaceful preborn defenders on college campuses,” said Harrington at the time of the report.
“We will never cave to acts of violence or intimidation. We will return hate with love for mothers and their babies,” the group’s president continued.
In a statement, Created Equal noted that the group is “committed to defending babies. We are also committed to defending the right to defend babies. Thus, Created Equal is currently engaged in several open cases with prosecutors charging those who attack our property or people, including the incidents at UNC.”
Ward was later charged with a simple assault, which is a misdemeanor, and has a court date set for June 4.
