WATCH: Ellen Pompeo Calls Out White People On Diversity: ‘We Created The Problem’

   DailyWire.com

“Gray’s Anatomy” star Ellen Pompeo was showered with praise after she “called out” Porter magazine for their supposed lack of diversity while she was seated at a roundtable discussion for the outlet. The actress lectured white people on how “we created the problem” with regard to skin color diversity deficiencies on sets and said “Caucasian people” must demand that their work spaces “look like the world we see.”

“This day has been incredible, and there’s a ton of women in the room,” started Pompeo. “But, I don’t see enough color. And I didn’t see enough color when I walked in the room today.”

Pompeo’s comments came as she was flanked by “Scream Queens” Emma Roberts and two actresses of color, “Sleepless” actress Gabrielle Union and Gina Rodriquez of “Jane the Virgin.”

Pompeo was mostly concerned about the lack of diversity within the crew on set at Porter magazine.

Flexing her diversity muscles, Pompeo bragged that she told another director of an endorsement project she’s doing that there is “not enough color.”

“I had meeting with a director of another endorsement project that I’m doing, and I said, ‘You know, when I show up on set, I would like to see the crew look like the world that I walk around in everyday,” she said.

According to the U.S. Census data, 60.3% of the population is white, 18.3% is Hispanic, 12.5% is black, and 5.7% is Asian.

“And I think it’s up to all productions to make sure that your crew looks like the world we see,” she continued. “As Caucasian people, it’s our job, it’s our task, it’s our responsibility to make sure we speak up in every single room we walk into. It’s our job because we created the problem.”

The Atlantic’s Jemele Hill said Pompeo put “on a master class” on how white people can be “an ally” to people of color.

The official Twitter account for Dictionary.com applauded Pompeo thusly:

“I love Ellen Pompeo so much. She normalizes the idea of diversity for other white people who don’t understand it. Instead of acting like she should be praised for it, she recognizes that it is NORMAL to want and have diversity and representation,” Women’s Republic founder Sai Sailaja Seshadri said in a tweet.

In February, Pompeo made headlines when she called Fox News host Laura Ingraham a “b****” and told her to meet her outside, suggesting she wanted to fight her. “Someone tell this b**** to meet me outside… Im so not in the mood for playing nice or polite this week,” she wrote via Twitter.

Pompeo was reacting to Ingraham saying basketball star LeBron James should cool it with the political commentary and “shut up and dribble.” Though Ingraham was making reference to a previous book she penned, “Shut Up and Sing: How Elites from Hollywood, Politics, and the Media are Subverting America,” the media and most of Hollywood accused Ingraham of racism.
