A Democratic lawmaker said during a hearing in the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday that “everyone respects” special counsel Robert Mueller, but was quickly corrected by one dissenting Republican voice in the room.
Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) asked Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein if he thought Mueller was the best candidate to lead the investigation into alleged and unproven allegations of possible collusion between members of the Trump campaign and Russian officials, Mediaite reported.
“I believe based upon his reputation, his service, his patriotism, and his experience with the department and with the FBI, I believe he was an ideal choice for this task,” Rosenstein answered.
Cohen replied that he agreed with Rosenstein’s assessment, as did the FBI Director Christopher Wray.
“[E]verybody respects that man in this country,” said Cohen.
Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) quickly proved that Cohen’s high praise was overstated.
“I didn’t, I don’t,” said Gohmert.
