WASHINGTON, DC - FEBRUARY 13: In this screenshot taken from a congress.gov webcast, Michael van der Veen, defense lawyer for former President Donald Trump, gives closing arguments on the fifth day of former President Donald Trump's second impeachment trial at the U.S. Capitol on February 13, 2021 in Washington, DC. House impeachment managers had argued that Trump was “singularly responsible” for the January 6th attack at the U.S. Capitol and he should be convicted and barred from ever holding public office again. Vandals struck the home of one of former President Donald Trump’s impeachment attorneys last week while the impeachment trial was going on.

The vandals spray-painted “TRAITOR” on the driveway with a red arrow pointing to attorney Michael van der Veen’s home near Philadelphia on Friday night. Van der Veen has since hired private security to watch over his home and the local police department has increased officer presence in the neighborhood, police said according to ABC News.

Van der Veen’s wife reported the incident to police. No arrests have been made. The attorney spoke briefly of the vandalism on Fox News on Saturday.

“My home was attacked,” van der Veen said. “To answer your question, my entire family, my business, my law firm are under siege right now. I don’t really want to go into that, though.”

Over the weekend, a group of protesters gathered outside van der Veen’s Philadelphia office chanting, “When van der Veen lies, what do you do? Convict. Convict.”

The Senate voted to acquit Trump of the impeachment charge passed by the House in January accusing the former president of inciting a Jan. 6 riot in which hundreds of his supporters stormed the Capitol building. Van der Veen had argued in defense of Trump against the impeachment allegation since Tuesday.

As The Daily Wire reported:

The U.S. Senate voted 57-43 to acquit former President Donald Trump in his second impeachment trial, after he was charged by the House of Representatives with incitement of insurrection in connection with the January 6 Capitol building riot.

Two-thirds of the Senate, or 67 votes, were required to convict Trump. All Democrats voted in favor of conviction, in addition to seven Republicans, including Richard Burr of North Carolina, Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Senator Susan Collins of Maine, Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska, Senator Mitt Romney of Utah, and Senator Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania.

Van der Veen slammed the impeachment proceedings on Sunday following Trump’s Saturday acquittal. He attacked the House managers who brought the case against Trump, as well as the media for “trying to divide the country” before taking off his microphone and walking away from a live interview on CBS News. Van der Veen said in part:

What happened at the Capitol on January 6 is absolutely horrific. But what happened at the Capitol during this trial was not too far away from that. The prosecutors in this case doctored evidence. They did not investigate this case and when they had to come to the court of the Senate to put their case on, they hadn’t done any investigation. They doctored evidence.  It was absolutely shocking I think when we discovered it and we were able to expose it and put it out; I think it turned a lot of senators. The American people should not be putting up with this, they need to look at who these House managers were and look to see whether these were the folks they want representing them. It was shocking to me, wouldn’t have believed it.
