U.S. Air Force Drops Record Number Of Bombs On Taliban

By  Hank Berrien

As part of a 96-hour air campaign against the Taliban in Afghanistan, the U.S. Air Force dropped more precision-guided bombs then it ever has before, according to U.S. Forces-Afghanistan.

A B-52 Stratofortress dropped 24 guided bombs in Northern Afghanistan as the Air Force hit Taliban training facilities and narcotics facilities. The statement from U.S. Forces also revealed the attack targeted stolen Afghan National Army vehicles “being converted to vehicle-borne” improvised explosive devices, as Fox News reported.

Gen. John Nicholson, the commander of the unit, stated, “The Taliban have nowhere to hide. There will be no safe haven for any terrorist group bent on bringing harm and destruction to this country.”

As Fox News has reported, in the last week the U.S. military has been reducing its forces from an American-led coalition base in Iraq and shifting them to Afghanistan since Islamic State has been decimated in Iraq. According to The Washington Post, the U.S. Army is considering increasing the total U.S. force in Afghanistan by 1,000 to help Afghan forces against the Taliban.

President Trump has warned against drawing down troops in Afghanistan. Referencing Barack Obama’s decision to withdraw forces from Iraq in 2011, he stated, “A hasty withdrawal would create a vacuum that terrorists, including ISIS and al Qaeda, would instantly fill, just as happened before September 11th.”
