In a mini-tweetstorm launched early Friday morning, Donald Trump slammed Hillary Clinton for having the “BAD JUDGEMENT!” to use “disgusting” former Miss Universe Alicia Machado to attack him.
“Wow, Crooked Hillary was duped and used by my worst Miss U. Hillary floated her as an ‘angel’ without checking her past, which is terrible!” he tweeted. “Using Alicia M in the debate as a paragon of virtue just shows that Crooked Hillary suffers from BAD JUDGEMENT! Hillary was set up by a con. Did Crooked Hillary help disgusting (check out sex tape and past) Alicia M become a U.S. citizen so she could use her in the debate?”
As the Daily Wire reported this week, Machado—whom Trump infamously called “Miss Piggy” and “Miss Housekeeping” two decades ago, when she gained a reported 60 lbs after winning Miss Universe in 1996—does indeed have a scandal-ridden past, including, as Trump referenced, an episode on a reality show in which she had sex with a TV host while the cameras were rolling:
Machado had sexual intercourse with a Spanish TV host that was broadcasted on TV. Machado was on the reality TV show The Farm, and she had sex with host Fernando Acasa – on camera – in 2005, even though she was already engaged to baseball player Bobby Abreu at the time, according to The Sun.
“Oh your d***, my love, what a tasty d***!” Machado can be heard saying to Acasa in the middle of their intercourse “Your d*** is divine.”
Needless to say, Abreu and Machado didn’t end up getting married. Later, Machado defended her actions on the show, saying she had no regrets about having the engagement-ending affair and describing herself as a “fine person.”
Another scandal surrounding Machado involved accusations that she had helped her boyfriend commit murder in 1998:
Her boyfriend, Juan Rodriguez Reggeti, allegedly shot his brother-in-law Francisco Sbert Moukso because he believed that Moukso was responsible for causing his sister, Maria Rodriguez, to commit suicide. Machado was accused of driving Reggeti away from the scene.
At the time, Machado’s lawyer denied the charge, and a judge did not find enough evidence to prove that she was at the murder scene.
Reggeti was indicted, but he was unable to be found.
Additionally, Judge Maximiliano Fuenmayor claimed that Machado “said she would make sure, using her friendship with the president [Rafael Caldera], that my career as judge is ruined and then she would kill me” in a phone call to the judge. Machado admitted to calling the judge but didn’t admit to making that statement.
Asked by CNN’s Anderson Cooper recently about the accusations, she dismissed them as media “speculation,” adding, “Everybody has a past… I’m not a saint girl. But that is not the point now.”
Then there’s the crazy child-with-a-Mexican-drug-lord rumor:
Machado has allegedly had a child with a Mexican drug lord. According to The Federalist, the allegation stemmed from a witness who claimed to have seen Jose Gerardo Alvarez Vazquez – more infamously known as “El Indio” – and other Mexican drug cartel members at the baptism of Machado’s daughter and that El Indio and Machado “were romantically linked.” The person who made the allegation was later fatally shot.
While Trump could have just let the wild stories about Machado circulate on their own, he insisted on keeping himself squarely at the center of the bizarre and ugly feud. And so the reality show that is the 2016 presidential election continues to spiral to new depths of absurdity.
