Real estate mogul Donald Trump said that President Barack Obama is trying to take away Americans’ guns.
“What I do see is step by step by step and then we have no Second Amendment,” Trump told CNN’s Chris Cuomo. “These are such baby steps. I don’t really know what’s he’s proposing. All I hear is he’s going to sign an executive order. Regardless of what is proposed, it is proposed by executive order and it shouldn’t be.”
Here are five reasons why Trump is right.
1. Obama has said he doesn’t believe anyone should have guns.
Crime Research Prevention Center president John Lott wrote in his book At The Brink that when they taught together at the University of Chicago, Obama told him, “I don’t believe people should be able to own guns.”
2. Obama’s gun control measures will incrementally lead to a gun ban.
As The Daily Wire has previously written:
As law professor Nicholas Johnson wrote in The Wall Street Journal, Sen. Howard Metzenbaum (D-Oh.) said in 1989 about guns, “If you don’t ban all of them you might as well ban none of them.”
“Gun owners and Second Amendment activists understand that Howard Metzenbaum was absolutely right about the logic of supply-side gun control,” Johnson wrote. “So they resist incremental gun controls on the understanding that the latest proposal cannot be the last step.”
Any new gun control measures, as Obama is proposing, are just another step towards the widespread confiscation of firearms.
3. Obama has expressed admiration towards Britain and Australia’s gun bans.
In his speech about the Oregon shooting, Obama said, “We know that other countries, in response to one mass shooting, have been able to craft laws that almost eliminate mass shootings. Friends of ours, allies of ours—Great Britain, Australia, countries like ours. So we know there are ways to prevent it.”
Britain and Australia enacted gun bans, neither of which worked. The fact that Obama speaks glowingly of those countries’ actions reveals his true intentions.
4. Obama’s executive orders would raise the price of guns.
Obama’s executive orders, aside from being illegal, would force many private dealers who occasionally sell firearms on the side to implement background checks, even if they only sell one firearm. This would raise prices on firearms, and if guns are more expensive, people are less likely to buy them.
5. Obama’s executive orders could bar millions of Social Security recipients from being allowed to own a firearm.
The Social Security Administration would be involved in adding numerous recipients to the federal background check system, which could then result in millions being denied a weapon given how faulty the current system is.
