Leftists are waving their arms with cries of “homophobia” after President Trump praised Karen Pence, wife of Vice President Mike Pence, for teaching at a Christian school that promotes biblical sexual morality.
“I’ve gotten to know Karen so well,” the president said, according to NBC News. “She is a Marine Corps mom, a tremendous woman, a proud supporter of military families, and she just recently went back to teaching art classes at a Christian school. Thank you, thank you, Karen. Terrific woman.”
That “Christian school” Trump referenced is Immanuel Christian School in Virginia, which has committed the unforgivable sin of demanding that students and staff not engage in behavior the Bible deems sinful, including homosexual acts. Pence’s communication director, Kara Brooks, said the attacks on the school were “absurd.”
“It’s absurd that her decision to teach art to children at a Christian school, and the school’s religious beliefs, are under attack,” Brooks said.
For praising Karen Pence’s line of work, the LGBTQ advocacy group GLAAD denounced the president’s comments as “disturbing.”
LGBTQ activists also took issue with President Trump’s praise of adoption agencies that will not work with same-sex couples for religious reasons.
“My administration is working to ensure that faith-based adoption agencies are able to help vulnerable children find their forever families while following their deeply held beliefs,” Trump said.
Democratic National Committee LGBTQ media director Lucas Acosta also accused the president of homophobia in a lengthy statement: “President Trump has yet again attacked LGBTQ people, this time at the expense of children in need of a home. With more than 400,000 children in foster care nationwide, Trump should focus on increasing the placement of children with qualified potential parents, not supporting state-funded discrimination against LGBTQ families. Every child deserves a home, and every qualified person seeking to adopt deserves to be considered. With a new House majority — made up of a historic amount of LGBTQ members — Democrats will continue to take a stand against the hateful Trump-GOP agenda.”
Leftists have been nothing but cruel toward Immanuel Christian School ever since discovering that Karen Pence worked there. Recently, the LGBTQ organization The Trevor Project sent the school 100 copies of John Oliver’s gay bunny book, “A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo,” that was originally created to troll Charlotte Pence’s children’s book about the Pence family’s pet bunny Marlon Bundo.
In the group’s statement, the Trevor Project quoted Luke Hartman, an openly gay man and an alumnus of Immanuel Christian school, who said that he is “a living example that intolerance, both in policy and rhetoric, are harmful to the mental wellness and development of LGBTQ students, who are desperately looking for ways to fit in.”
Hartman added that the “silent and spoken messages of rejection” felt by LGBTQ youth “directly impact the relationship they have with their faith, education, and relationships with family and friends.”
