For the second time in two months, President Trump has called out the Democratic Party for its unwavering support for abortion in seemingly all circumstances.
According to LifeSiteNews, the North Carolina rally on Wednesday consisted of more than just the crowd chanting “send her back” in reference to Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) — it also featured a moment in which the president blasted the Democratic Party for its pro-abortion extremism.
“Virtually every top Democrat also now supports late-term abortion, ripping babies straight from the mother’s womb, right up until the moment of birth,” Trump told the booing crowd.
The president made reference to Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam of Virginia, who famously said that children born alive during an abortion will not be preserved if the mother does not want it.
“Well, then you have … our governor from Virginia,” Trump said of Northam. “So we’re talking about late-term; he’s talking about [if] the baby is born before the mother makes the decision. That was the first … I’ve heard of it. That’s the first most of you have heard of it, and then they pass legislation in various states saying that’s okay.”
President Trump went on to blast the idea that Northam faced more criticism for allegedly wearing blackface in a college yearbook photo alongside someone in a Ku Klux Klan robe several decades ago than he did for defending infanticide.
“This is a baby that’s born,” he continued. “Nobody’s ever heard anything like that. Nobody’s ever seen anything like it. Nobody’s ever seen anything like it, and that actually when he had the scandal that became, can you believe it, the second biggest, can you believe that? How important it is, and yet that was the second biggest story. And what a shame when that’s the second biggest story.”
“What happened to our values?” Trump asked. “Republicans believe that every life is a sacred gift of God. And that’s why I’ve asked Congress to prohibit extreme late-term abortion of babies.”
Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam issued one of the most gruesome defenses of abortion earlier this year when he defended a bill that said a born-alive infant with “severe deformities” would not be resuscitated against the mother’s wishes to the contrary. His full comments:
When we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of the mother, with the consent of physicians, more than one physician by the way, and it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities, there may be a fetus which is non-viable. So in this particular example, if the mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen, the infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if this is what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physician and the mother.
President Trump has strongly stepped up his pro-life rhetoric in 2019, beginning with his State of the Union Address, wherein he declared that unborn children are made in the image and likeness of God, worthy of government protection.
