Following an overtime victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday during the AFC championship game, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady posted a video on his Instagram that is going viral.
The video, which co-stars tight end Rob Gronkowski, starts off by showing the two men silent but smirking as P. Diddy’s “Bad Boys for Life” plays in the background. Then the video shows Rex Burkhead scoring the winning touchdown, the final score of 37-31, the Patriots celebrating, and the words “Still here.”
In his post-game interview, the usually stoic QB couldn’t contain his excitement, even to the point of dropping an f-bomb.
“Unf****** believable, bro,” Brady said. “This is crazy.”
Along with showing his excitement, Brady also demonstrated his class. Following the game, Brady went to the Chief’s locker room to see Chief’s quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The Daily Wire’s Amanda Prestigiacomo reports:
“After pulling off a classic Brady-style overtime win against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night, the legendary quarterback demanded to see 23-year-old rising star Patrick Mahomes, the QB on the opposing team. Brady, as reported by ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, made it over to the Chiefs’ locker room to speak to Mahomes after their loss.
“Tom Brady just quietly approached a security guard waiting outside the Chiefs’ locker room — and asked if he could see Patrick Mahomes. Brady was escorted into a room where he spoke briefly with him. A very clear display of respect from one incredible quarterback to another,” reported Darlington.”
“I just went and saw him,” Brady told Peter King of Football Morning In America. “I mean, he’s feeling like you think he’d feel when you lose a game like this. It hurts. He’s a hell of a … I mean, what a great young player. So impressed with his poise, his leadership. He is spectacular.”
The win marks Brady’s third trip to the Super Bowl in a row and his ninth overall.
The Los Angeles Rams defeated the New Orleans Saints 26-23 for the NFC title game, also in overtime on Sunday.
The Patriots will face the Rams in Super Bowl LIII on Sunday, February 3, where Brady and Bill Belichick hope to win their sixth Lombardi Trophy.
Last month, The Daily Wire reported that despite the rumors, Brady has made clear he has no plans to retire anytime soon:
“I absolutely believe I will,” the 41-year-old said when asked if he will return next year (transcript via CBS Boston). “I know I’ve talked about it for a long time; I have goals to not only play next year, but beyond that. I’m going to try to do it as best I possibly can. I’m going to give it everything I have, like I always have. It will certainly be a challenge. I don’t take any of these things for granted, but I hope I can keep playing, and I hope I can keep playing at a championship level.”
Brady said that after almost two decades in the league, he continues to view football as the greatest “gift” in his life.
“I’ve been able to be in a career for 19 years that I love,” he said. “I wake up every day excited to go to work. I wake up every day fulfilled with what I’m doing. I don’t think there’s any greater gift in my life than to have that. Along with that has come a lot of other very cool opportunities, but in my heart and soul, I love playing the sport of football, and it’s brought me so much joy in my life. It tests you in so many ways.”
He continued: “I’ve been dealing it for a long time. There’s anxiousness and nerves, and joy and happiness. There’s disappointment and frustration. The emotions run the gamut. But if you can stay and build your mental toughness, it’s just been incredibly rewarding. I’m a very, very lucky man.”
On Sunday, President Donald Trump congratulated the Patriots following the win. “Congratulations to Bob Kraft, Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and the entire New England Patriots team on a great game and season,” Trump tweeted. “Will be a fantastic Super Bowl!”
