Tim Allen On The State Of Comedy: ‘It Is Really Like Dancing On The Thinnest Ice’

By  Jacob Airey

Tim Allen expressed his concern over the state of comedy at a recent event, suggesting that it can be “dangerous” for comedians who might say the wrong thing and offend someone in the audience.

“You don’t know what you’re going to say to offend people,” the “Last Man Standing” actor said.

Allen made the comments at this year’s PaleyFest in Beverly Hills, California on Thursday, Fox News reports. Given the current hypersensitive climate, he suggested he has to use caution during his performances to avoid any blowback from his act.

“It is really like dancing on the thinnest ice,” he said. “I’ve been in the comedy world for 30 years as a comic and there’s nothing more dangerous right now for all of the comics I know, what we can and cannot say.”

Allen went to on to say that he brings a certain amount of “anarchism” into the “Last Man Standing” writers’ room.

“I don’t like being told what I can and cannot say and who’s telling me what I can’t do,” he said. “I really appreciate where these guys go because our writers are all over the map, and with writing just the stuff you do in your life.”

Allen made similar comments in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in which he described himself as a “political anarchist.”

“Last Man Standing” returns to television on September 28 on Fox after an unexpected cancellation by ABC despite the sitcom’s high ratings. The cancellation sparked outrage among fans, many of whom charged that it was due to Allen’s political stance on screen and off.
