Tim Tebow is reportedly getting a second chance at an NFL career, according to the NFL Network.

Tebow, a former quarterback, worked out as a tight end for the Jacksonville Jaguars in April, and his reported signing will reunite him with his former college coach, Urban Meyer. Tebow last played in the NFL in 2012 with the New York Jets.

In 2016, Tebow tried his hand at professional baseball. He spent time in the New York Mets organization and was an Eastern League All-Star while playing for Double-A Binghamton in 2018. He announced his retirement from baseball in February.

“I loved every minute of the journey, but at this time I feel called in other directions,” Tebow said in a statement. “I never want to be partially in on anything. I always want to be 100 percent in on whatever I choose. Thank you again for everyone’s support of this awesome journey in baseball, I’ll always cherish my time as a Met.”

Tebow’s addition to the Jaguars as a tight end is an interesting one as he has experience in Meyer’s offense. He’ll have a chance to catch passes from 2021 number one overall pick Trevor Lawrence as the Jaguars attempt to improve from an abysmal 1-15 2020 season.

In Tebow’s last NFL action with the Jets, he was mainly used as a wildcat quarterback, appearing in 12 games, completing six passes for 39 yards.

Meyer is known for using the run/pass option in his offense, and Tebow certainly has the knowledge to contribute in his offense.

“I think they’ll run what Urban Meyer has always run, but I think they’ll have to make some changes to the concept of the offense,” NFL insider Benjamin Allbright told The Daily Wire.  “In college you have the wider hash marks which creates natural space on the wide side of the field, and Meyer’s offense was a lot about that. Creating that space, putting your best athlete in that space, and letting them create.”

“You’re not going to be able to do that at the pro level. So, I think you’re going to see a lot of the RPO stuff, but I think you’ll see him incorporate some pro concepts a little bit more. You know, we’ve seen Kliff Kingsbury (head coach, Arizona Cardinals) kind of tune his offense up for the NFL. I think we’ll see Urban Meyer tune his up to the NFL as well.”

Regardless of how Tebow is used, his addition to the roster will certainly be a boost for Jaguars ticket sales, as his loyal fanbase will surely follow him to Jacksonville.
