As The Daily Wire reported last month, the United Kingdom recently decided to collapse its artificial distinction between the ostensibly distinct “military” and “political” wings of the Shiite supremacist group Hezbollah, and declared that it would henceforth recognize all of Hezbollah as a unified terrorist organization.
As Reuters reported at the time:
Britain said on Monday it plans to ban all wings of Hezbollah due to its destabilizing influence in the Middle East, classing the Lebanese Islamist movement as a terrorist organization.
London had already proscribed Hezbollah’s external security unit and its military wing in 2001 and 2008 respectively, but now wants to outlaw its political arm too.
Jeremy Corbyn, the barely veiled anti-Semite who heads Britain’s increasingly far-Left Labour Party and has referred to jihadist groups Hamas and Hezbollah alike as his “friends,” has now responded as one might expect a “friend” of Hezbollah to respond. …
Such open terror apologia is not new for Corbyn. As The Jerusalem Post reported last year, Corbyn in 2014 was photographed laying a commemorative wreath in Munich for the graves of 11 Islamic jihadists who brutally murdered Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympics held in the Bavarian city.
Germany will not follow Britain’s lead in declaring Iran-backed Hezbollah a terrorist organization, a senior official was quoted as saying on Friday, a decision that may fuel tensions with Saudi Arabia and the United States.
Minister of State Niels Annen told weekly news magazine Der Spiegel that the Shi’ite Muslim Islamist movement remained a relevant factor in Lebanese society and the European Union had already added its military wing to a list of proscribed groups in 2013. …
Long the most powerful group in Lebanon, Hezbollah’s influence has expanded at home and in the region. It controls three of 30 ministries in the government led by Western-backed Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri, the largest number ever.
Hezbollah, as a Shiite group, is notably a patron of the terror-exporting Iranian regime’s. Conservative columnist Michael Rubin recently excoriated the German government for its close ties with the Islamist mullocracy in Tehran:
Germany has long been at the forefront of efforts to embrace Iran regardless of regime behavior. …For German authorities across from the political spectrum, human rights is only a tool with which to dress its foreign policy rhetoric. The German public may care about human rights, but few German elites, from the political right or from the political left, do. For German authorities, the primary goal is commercial benefit. The execution of gays, slaughter of Jews, repression of other minorities, and terrorism are inconveniences to ignore.
Hezbollah, which has its roots in Lebanon, now operates as a transnational terrorist/criminal/trafficking outfit. As a breathtaking Politico Magazine exposé discussed in great depth in 2017, Hezbollah’s malign activities have recently metastasized throughout the Americas:
[“Operation Cassandra” was] launched in 2008 after the Drug Enforcement Administration amassed evidence that Hezbollah had transformed itself from a Middle East-focused military and political organization into an international crime syndicate that some investigators believed was collecting $1 billion a year from drug and weapons trafficking, money laundering and other criminal activities.
