Seth Meyers Faces Backlash After Joking About Dead Americans During Trump Speech

   DailyWire.com

Has Seth Meyers any respect for the dead? His tweet on Tuesday night during President Trump’s speech on the border crisis showed little of it.

During the oval office address, President Trump referenced several Americans who had been killed by illegal aliens to highlight the necessity of the border wall:

America’s heart broke the day after Christmas when a young police officer in California was savagely murdered in cold blood by an illegal alien, just came across the border. The life of an American hero was stolen by someone who had no right to be in our country. Day after day, precious lives are cut short by those who have violated our borders.

In California, an air force veteran was raped, murdered, and beaten to death with a hammer by an illegal alien with a long criminal history. In Georgia, an illegal alien was recently charged with murder for killing, beheading, and dismembering his neighbor. In Maryland, MS-13 gang members who arrived in the United States as unaccompanied minors were arrested and charged last year after viciously stabbing and beating a 16-year-old girl.

Over the last several years I have met with dozens of families whose loved ones were stolen by illegal immigration. I have held the hands of the weeping mothers and embraced the grief-stricken fathers. So sad, so terrible. I will never forget the pain in their eyes, the tremble in their voices, and the sadness gripping their souls. How much more American blood must we shed before Congress does its job?

Rather than just rebutting the president with the oft-repeated leftist talking point that illegal immigrants commit less crime than natural born citizens, Seth Meyers chose to get cheeky.

“Is this Oval Office: SVU?” said a tweet on the official “Late Night with Seth Meyers” account.

The SVU was in reference to “Law & Order: SVU,” meaning Special Victims Unit.

Various conservative figureheads immediately caught on to Meyers’ tweet and were not amused by it.

“I’m sure that’s hysterical to the families of the murder victims the president just discussed,” said Meyers’ former colleague Megyn Kelly.

“Just wondering if there was anything less funny than seth meyers – turns out, it’s his twitter feed,” said Fox News host Greg Gutfeld.

“I’ve always enjoyed your humor but this is offensive,” said Twitter user Kara Lynch. “Fine if you don’t want the wall but please don’t make jokes about victims & their families. No one deserves to die and if they do, we can honor their memories. You’re nothing short of a disgrace for forgetting that.”

Prior to the speech, Meyers had called upon networks to completely shut the president out so as to avoid spreading his propaganda.

“First of all, just because Trump wants to address the nation doesn’t mean networks should air it,” said Meyers. “Otherwise, they’re just passing on his lies unfiltered. They should either reject him outright, or, if he insists on speaking in prime time, make him do it as a contestant on ‘The Masked Singer.'”
