On Saturday, following an appearance on The Daily Show by teenage environmental activist Greta Thunberg, supposed comedienne and genuine leftist Sarah Silverman decided that Thunberg was the reincarnation of someone from long ago:

Jesus Christ.

Silverman’s addled claim came in response to a tweet from The Daily Show quoting Thunberg preaching, “What we should do as individuals is to use the power of democracy to make our voices heard and to make sure that the people in power actually cannot continue to ignore this.”

Silverman pontificated, “You think you will recognize Jesus when he comes back? He is this girl. And y’all don’t even see it.”

If that weren’t enough, Silverman followed with an attack on evangelicals, stating: “The irony of it being most lost on the evangelicals who preach Noah and ark and are so totally blind to it all happening right in front of their eyes.”

Daily Show host Trevor Noah enthused that Thunberg had come across the Atlantic Ocean in a zero-emissions boat. But as Independent Journal Review noted, “Although Thunberg was lauded for the decision, it became clear that her trip to the U.S. was not as green as she had hoped. According to a report from the Associated Press, her sailing team is flying two people to the U.S. while Thunberg conducts her visit … A spokesperson for the team claimed that they will be donating to carbon-reducing endeavors to ‘compensate’ for the carbon used on the flights.”

Thunberg, who seems to favor apocalyptic rhetoric, told Noah, “We are right now in the beginning of the sixth mass extinction and people don’t know these things …” Last April, she told the European Parliament, “I want you to act as if the house is on fire. I have said those words before, and a lot of people have explained why that is a bad idea. A great number of politicians have told me that panic never leads to anything good, and I agree. To panic, unless you have to, is a terrible idea. But when your house is on fire and you want to keep your house from burning to the ground, then that does require some level of panic …”

Silverman’s bold claim likening Thunberg to Jesus comes from her vast wealth of historical knowledge. Only days after President Trump’s 2016 election victory, she tweeted, “For a lot of people, this is the Great Depression, but this time it’s emotional & physical. Our bodies r breaking down w fear & rage…”

As if the genuine Great Depression of the 1930s did not precipitate emotional and physical breakdowns …

Silverman using Jesus as a supposed model to be emulated is hilarious considering she’s not above using his name to advance her own potty mouth, as she did in this promo for her Netflix special called “A Speck of Dust”:

And there was this time she seemingly called Christian believers “mother f******”:

But hey, if Silverman, the expert on history and Christianity, thinks Thunberg is the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, who are we to disagree?
