On Saturday, another police department in a major metropolitan area in Texas was attacked.

After Thursday’s massacre in Dallas, in which black Army veteran murdered five police officers in cold blood and wounded six more, on Saturday an unidentified person opened fire on the San Antonio police headquarters Saturday night.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus acknowledged that bullets had struck the wall of the headquarters just before 10 p.m., allowing, “There were bullet marks on the wall of the public safety headquarters.” Police caught one person seen running away from the building one person but that person is not yet viewed as a suspect as yet. There was a car left near the scene and also shell casings found on the ground nearby in an alley.

McManus said, “We don’t know what the motive was. If someone was randomly firing or if they saw a big building and decided to shoot at it, or other motives.”

In an interview posted to the department’s Facebook page, McManus said there were a number of detectives inside the building when the shots were fired. He stated, “It’s alarming right now. It’s not the first time our building has been shot at, but it’s too coincidental that it’s around the time that officers are being threatened in cities around the country, especially here in Texas.”

“We are not going to be targets; we are not going to allow officers to be targets.”

McManus said, “We are not going to be targets; we are not going to allow officers to be targets. This is not open season on police officers here in San Antonio or anywhere else. We’re not going to allow that to happen.”
