After being called out by Sarah Palin for shamelessly acting like he was a disabled U.S. veteran to “dupe” her into a fake interview for his new Republican-ripping Showtime series, Sacha Baron Cohen responded by trolling the former Alaska governor some more.
Cohen responded to Palin’s accusation on Thursday by retweeting a fake message from one of his characters, the right-wing-mocking “Billy Wayne Ruddick Jr., PhD,” the “founder of Truthbrary.org.”
“I did NOT say I was a War Vet. I was in the service — not military, but United Parcel,” he wrote. “And I only fought for my country once — when I shot a Mexican who came onto my property.” The fake letter went on to thank Palin for “TELLING THE TRUTH about Obama’s birth certificate and the location of Russia.”
On Tuesday, Palin posted a blistering account of the “perverse” interview experience she had with Cohen and his CBS/Showtime team, which she said “duped” her into the interview by pretending Cohen was a wounded veteran, “fake wheelchair and all.”
“For my interview, my daughter and I were asked to travel across the country where Cohen (I presume) had heavily disguised himself as a disabled US Veteran, fake wheelchair and all,” she wrote. “Out of respect for what I was led to believe would be a thoughtful discussion with someone who had served in uniform, I sat through a long ‘interview’ full of Hollywoodism’s disrespect and sarcasm – but finally had enough and literally, physically removed my mic and walked out, much to Cohen’s chagrin. The disrespect of our US military and middle-class Americans via Cohen’s foreign commentaries under the guise of interview questions was perverse.”
After she walked out of the interview, Palin wrote, Cohen’s team deliberately dropped her and her teenage daughter off at the wrong airport in D.C. so they’d miss all flights home to Alaska that day.
In the post, Palin challenged Cohen, CBS and Showtime to donate all proceeds from the show to “a charitable group that actually respects and supports American Vets.”
“Mock politicians and innocent public personalities all you want, if that lets you sleep at night, but HOW DARE YOU mock those who have fought and served our country,” she wrote. “Truly sick.”
