The fissures between the Democratic Party’s hardcore progressive base and the establishment continued to widen this week when actress/comedienne Rosie O’Donnell said that former Vice President Joe Biden is “too old” for 2020, reports Fox News.
Writing on her Twitter account, the notorious anti-Trump activist, who previously pondered whether or not Barron Trump has autism, blasted the former Vice President under the hashtag #NO2JOE.”
She wrote: “joe biden is too old to run for president. period #NO2JOE”
Indeed, progressives are doing everything within their power to keep Joe Biden off the 2020 ticket to make room for a socialist radical like Bernie Sanders or an intersectional darling like Kamala Harris. Last week, CNN televised a “focus group” during which all six members said that Biden should not be a 2020 candidate.
“I think we need a bold, strong leadership, and you’ll find that in the progressives,” said one Democratic voter.
Another said that the Democratic Party could not afford another centrist candidate due to Hillary Clinton’s loss in 2020. “We had the standard-bearer for the kind of pragmatic centrist candidate in Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Donald Trump is now president,” the voter said. “He is not your average political candidate, so we really need to try to think outside the box because, you know, it seems like the dude is made of rubber. Anything you throw at him just bounces off, there’s nothing that sticks.”
When CNN host Alisyn Camerota asked if anyone on the panel wanted Biden to enter the 2020 race, nobody raised their hand.
The former vice president, however, has not made an official declaration to run in 2020 yet, opting to only offer hints and clues, most likely to test the waters. According to The Hill, a Democratic lawmaker confirmed to the outlet on Tuesday that Biden will indeed be making a 2020 bid for the White House. As Rosie O’Donnell has already pointed out, it would make him the oldest president at the time of his election in history at almost 78.
“Former Vice President Joe Biden will run for president in 2020, a senior Democratic lawmaker told The Hill on Tuesday, a move that will shake up the crowded Democratic primary field and make him the clear front-runner for his party’s nomination against President Trump,” The Hill reported. “‘I’m giving it a shot,’ Biden reportedly said matter-of-factly during a phone call with a House Democratic lawmaker within the past week — a conversation the congressman recounted to The Hill and interpreted as a sure sign that Biden will run in 2020.”
Speaking at an event with firefighters on Tuesday morning, Biden hinted at a presidential run as the crowd chanted, “Run, Joe, Run!”
“I appreciate the energy you all showed when I got up here,” Biden said at the International Association of Fire Fighters’ annual conference in Washington, D.C. “Save it a little longer, I may need it in a few weeks. Be careful what you wish for.”
Former Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake said on Tuesday that Republicans fear a Biden 2020 ticket because he would steal votes from states that President Trump won in 2016.
