John Legend: Yeah, The National Anthem Is A ‘Weak Song’, And Racist.

Late Monday night, another Hollywood left-winger came out to defend 49ers has-been quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s choice to sit during the playing of our national anthem: the executive producer of the Obama hagiography Southside With You: singer John Legend.

Kaepernick explained his fawned-over protest-sit, which Legend presumably agrees with, on Friday: “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” said the millionaire QB adopted by a white family at just weeks old. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder,” he added.

Legend’s weak defense of Kaepernick’s self-righteous anti-American stunt? The song meant to unite us, symbolizing American ideals like freedom, is musically “weak.”

Oh, and it’s racist, of course.

“My vote is for America the Beautiful,” wrote Legend. “Star Spangled Banner is a weak song anyway. And then you read this …”

The singer quoted a tweet from The Intercept which linked their piece defending Kaepernick’s protest against the apparently racist national anthem. The tweet stated: “No one seems to be aware that our national anthem literally celebrates the murder of African-Americans.”

But Legend wasn’t finished yet: “For those defending the current anthem, do you really truly love that song?” Legend tried to reason. “I don’t and I’m very good at singing it. Like, one of the best.”

Legend’s new-found hatred of our national anthem was called out by one Twitter user: “[D]idn’t you just sing the national anthem at the 2016 NBA Finals?” he asked. “Hypocrite.”

“Star Spangled Banner is a weak song anyway.”

The musical talent, predictably so, chose to double-down on his anti-national anthem sentiment, excusing his earlier performance as one of ignorance over the song’s allegedly racist messaging.

“i [sic] sure did,” he replied. “I didn’t know this history until today.”

Legend executive-produced a film romanticizing an adaptation of Barack and Michelle Obama’s day-long first date, “Southside With You.” The film filled-to-the-brim with leftist social messaging is currently tanking at the box office despite left-wing critics’ glowing reviews.
