‘POOR LEADERSHIP’: Papa John’s CEO Goes Off On NFL During Conference Call

By  Ryan Saavedra

The CEO of the “official pizza company of the NFL,” Papa Johns, slammed Roger Goodell in a conference call on Wednesday over the league’s ongoing problem of players protesting the national anthem.

Papa John’s founder and CEO John Schnatter took a direct shot at the NFL’s leadership’s inability to manage the situation at hand, ESPN reported.

“We are disappointed the NFL and its leadership did not resolve this,” Schnatter said. “Leadership starts at the top, and this is an example of poor leadership.”

The report states that Papa John’s has canceled a significant portion of its television advertising with the NFL and that the league has “responded by giving the company additional future spots.”

NFL viewership continues to fall on a near weekly basis as Monday night’s matchup between the Denver Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs saw a 9% decline from the previous week’s Monday night game.

CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus said in August that protests by NFL players — which Colin Kaepernick started in August 2016 — are a definitely a significant factor in why NFL ratings are declining.
