A petition to rename Michigan’s Oxford High School football stadium after a student who died attempting to disarm the shooter has grown to more than 129,000 signatures.

Students have reported that Tate Myre, a 16-year-old running back for the Wildcats, was shot while trying to disarm the shooter and later died from the injury.

Myre was one of four victims of the shooting spree. Seven others were also injured.

“Tate is not just a hero to his fellow students at Oxford high school but a legend, his act of bravery should be remembered forever and passed down through generations, he put his life in danger to try and help the thousands of other students at Oxford High School,” the petition read.

The petition was launched by Drake Biggie, a sophomore and friend of Myre.

A few days before his death, Myre posted an image from a recruiting visit to the University of Toledo.

The junior running back finished his junior season as an all-region selection as a tight end and linebacker.

Myre’s Twitter profile noted a remarkable 3.9-grade point average, along with strong weightlifting and running statistics highlighting his strong athletic potential.

Myre was known for his hard work and grit, saying in a recent postgame video, “Rain is like Oxford football, tough.”

The 15-year-old male shooting suspect in the shooting was charged with first-degree murder and terrorism charges, an Oakland County prosecutor announced on Wednesday. The shooter will also face seven counts of assault with intent to kill and 12 counts of possession of a firearm.

Three students were reported dead on Tuesday. A fourth victim died on Wednesday, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

Justin Shilling, 17, passed away at approximately 10:00 a.m. local time at McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac just one day after the shooting tragedy that took the lives of three students.

The three students who died on the day of the incident included Myre, who died in a sheriff’s deputy’s car while traveling to the hospital; Hana St. Juliana, 14; and Madisyn Baldwin, 17.
