A new wellness fad that sounds like something off the pages of Goop just caused actor Josh Brolin (“The Avengers”) to burn his “pucker hole.”

In an angry Instagram post over the weekend, Brolin announced he gave something called “perineum sunning” a try only to regret it shortly after. What exactly is this special new trend? Well, apparently, it’s laying outside naked with the expressed purpose of sticking sunlight where the sun don’t shine.

“Tried this perineum sunning that I’ve been hearing about and my suggestion is DO NOT do it as long as I did,” said Brolin. “My pucker hole is crazy burned and I was going to spend the day shopping with my family and instead I’m icing and using aloe and burn creams because of the severity of the pain. I don’t know who the f**k thought of this stupid s**t but f**k you nonetheless. Seriously.”

According to the New York Post, “perineum sunning” became a hot topic in the wellness world when an Instagram user named Metaphysical Meagan (whose photo is featured in the Brolin post) shared an image of herself fully naked on a rock as her nether regions soaked up some rays.

“For the past few weeks I have included sunning my bum and yoni into my daily rising routine,” Metaphysical Meagan said in the original post, which garnered more than 84,000 likes after one Twitter user shared it. An influencer who goes by the name Ra of Earth claimed in a viral video that just 30 seconds of this butt-sunning will release more “energy from this electric node than you would in an entire day being outside with your clothes on.”

Dr. Stephen T. Chang, author “The Tao of Sexology: The Book of Infinite Wisdom,” said the practice can help keep the area free of germs. Influencer Troy Casey simultaneously argued that “[thirty] seconds of direct sunlight injection to the anal orifice is equivalent to being outside in the sun all day!”

Other celebrities have participated in the trend as well, such as “Divergent” actress Shailene Woodley, who told Into The Gloss in 2014 that she gives her “vagina a little vitamin D” to prevent yeast infections.

“Another thing I like to do is give my vagina a little vitamin D,” said Woodley. “I was reading an article written by an herbalist I studied about yeast infections and other genital issues. She said there’s nothing better than vitamin D. If you’re feeling depleted, go in the sun for an hour and see how much energy you get. Or, if you live in a place that has heavy winters, when the sun finally comes out, spread your legs and get some sunshine.”

Does the practice have any medical merits? Doctors are mostly skeptical, saying no evidence exists that sunbathing in such a way offers any health benefits.

“There is no evidence that sunbathing in this way has any effect on physical well-being,” Dr. Diana Gall told Insider. “Yes, practicing mindfulness and meditation, and getting your dose of vitamin D, is beneficial for mental and physical health, but you don’t need to damage your skin in the process from sun exposure.”
